LOVE these shoes. Most comfortable shoe I have ever worn. For years I could only wear one brand of shoe. I now have three different styles of Merrill’s. These are by far the best. Lived in Hawaii and hot used to wearing no shoes. I am not a shoe person. Been hiking around Iceland now for two weeks. Never had to break them in. Don’t even feel the need to take them off after a long day. They are wonderful and waterproof. Will order another pair when I return to the states. Highly recommend.

I love these hiking shoes! I bought one pair before I realized that they weren’t waterproof and when those wore out, I bought the waterproof version since I liked them so much. They’re my go-to shoe for any sort of hiking and travel and I love them. I have flat arches and these have just enough arch supper where my feet don’t hurt after wearing them all day for multiple days in a row. I also just swap out the insole with my orthotics when I feel like I might need more support. I think they run about a half size small, but that’s really just preference.

The black and the frost colors are waterproof as indicated by the “Dry” tag under the “Merrell” on the outside of the shoe near the top shoelace. The other color is not waterproof. All Merrell shoes that are waterproof will have the “Dry” tag somewhere on the shoe.

These shoes fit great, look great, and are as described. After reading the reviews, I made sure to test that they were waterproof before wearing them out, and they were. I've only worn them once jogging, but they are very comfortable and look good. The only slight downside that I can think of is that there is a slight crackling noise when you wear them. Maybe due to the waterproofing? Whatever the reason, it is barely noticeable and doesn't negatively impact the value of the shoe.

Awful Insoles - Beware!

The insoles of these shoes are incredibly awkward. My arches are on the high side, but I have a neutral gait and weight distribution on my feet (not pronate not supinate).

The insoles in these shoes make it feel like the arch support is in backwards - there is a ridge that runs along the outer edge of the insoles that causes your feet to turn inward onto the arches (over pronation). I wore these for two weeks while backpacking in Europe and by the time I got home my feet and ankles were so sore I thought I'd sprained my ankle (I hadn't).

The shoes are great other than the awful arch support design - I am planning to buy a different set of insoles for these shoes. I'd strongly recommend trying these on in person before buying, if you're able.

These shoes are extremely comfortable - giving great support without looking bulky/clunky. However, while they are definitely water-resistant, they are NOT waterproof. They'll do fine in powdery snow or walking through moderately wet grass. However, if you step in a puddle with these and get the meshing wet, your socks will end up getting soaked! Based on other reviews that noted the shoe size runs small, I went with a size 10 (I usually wear a size 9 1/2 to 10 ) and they fit perfectly.

Cuts my Achilles tendon

Back of shoe cuts painfully into my Achilles tendon. Tried to figure out why because shoe seems to fit perfectly/comfortably otherwise. Compared to my OnCloud shoes, the Merrill's back part seems to curl inward stiffly & sharply whereas the OnClouds don't (which never cut into my tendon). And it's very stiff, not sure if I can bend it by hand enough to soften the curl 'point'.

I bought these last minute for my holiday as I knew we’d be doing a lot of walking and hiking. They are so comfortable and size 5 was a perfect fit. I was worried they’d tear up my heals like all new shoes do, but they didn't at all, we went on several hikes and they have great grip on rocks and are so lightweight and didn't make my feet sweat on warm days - a problem I often have!

We walked through wet grass and they remained dry, however the mesh got very wet and made my feet cold, but my socks were still bone dry.

They look really good too - not big and clumpy like some hiking trainers! I ended up wearing them all the time - not just for hiking.

I’d definitely recommend these if you’re after a lightweight, waterproof hiking trainer.

Heard good things about merrell so spent way more than I normally would on what I thought were high quality hiking shoes so you can imagine my utter disappointment that they have barely lasted 6 months. Took a while to break in but didn't hold it against them, then they slowly started letting in more and more water (my hike can get pretty wet and muddy so again it wasn't too much of a bother getting a bit damp every once in a while when it was very wet outside) and now 6 months later when they need to stand up to the weather the most they are absolutely soaking walking through damp grass, the laces have split and starting to separate and the backs and soles have worn thin. Severely disappointed, waste of money, do not recommend.
