One thing I can notice is our mutt that's a terrier and beagle mix is less likely to chew stuff up due to her hyper manner when these are around... that's also another WIN to add on to the others above...
No matter how you slice it this is an awesome deal & product all around for any dog I'd say at least 25lbs or more on any given day...
Merrick seems to be a great company, and the bones are packaged excellent!
However, I suspect that dogs that are aggressive chewers would really enjoy this bone.
I have also found that soaking it in hot water for about 5 minutes makes it more attractive to my dog.
I'm sticking with deer and elk antlers for my lazy chewer.
At the price they are a much better value than rawhide chews, so I would buy them again.
I do have two caveats. First, this is a cooked bone and it is therefore hard and brittle. I did notice some shards were sometimes left on my dogs bed after chewing these.
Second, a little over a month after giving my dog this product I noticed blood coming directly from a hole in one of his upper molars as I was brushing his teeth. I took him to the vet since I was concerned about the apparent damage and potential for infection. My vet informed me my dog had sustained a slab fracture. He said it most likely happened from my dog chewing something hard and the fractures commonly occur in older dogs (My lab/poodle mix is 8 years old). This was the only chew style treat I was giving him during that time. The fracture had exposed the root, and my dogs (otherwise healthy) tooth could not be saved. I would not recommend these for older dogs.
TL;DR Pretty sure chewing one of these broke my dogs tooth
