I liked the book and it was a solid story, well balanced. The character development for the main characters was good. There's even a little espionage side plot.
The only real problem is the real reason for the war and all the conflict doesn't make a lot of sense. You found out in the first few chapters it has to do with a skeleton and a member of that race that doesn't want it found. The reasons why are unclear though. You can sort of guess by the end of the book but it's still really underdeveloped.
The number of editing mistakes was not too bad for an independent, which doesn't mean that better editing wouldn't help. However what I found annoying was ship names occasionally mixed up. All in all, an interesting evening of reading enjoyment. Really it is worth 3.5 stars, but I was generous.
I am generally more of a fantasy guy, but despite the greater scope of the story; the character where fully developed and sympathetic. Very well written.

It reminded me a lot of Robert Heinlein's Space Cadet, a book I liked as a young teen.Read more
