Mesa amps have the very best tone. The clean channel has a chimey Fender Twin sound with more midrange. The crunch channel is like a Marshall Plexi. The Mark IV channel is a Mesa / Boogie Hard Rock channel that will cover anything from blues to metal. The Extreme channel sounds close to Mesa's Triple Rectifier.
The five band EQ is very dynamic and grants the user many tonal options. When engaged it adds to the tone of the amps three-band EQ. The amp takes pedals as well as any Fender amp. Where this amp really shines is in its ability to bring out the very most out of your pickups. If you are using low output passive pickups then this amp will bring out the harmonic richness and overtones of your pickups. The subtle nuances of your picking style will standout.
This amp really is versatile. Certain amps seem to work well with certain genres of music but not so well for others. This amp was specifically designed to be a tube amp that could play any and all genres of music. This amp will do jazz which is something that most rock and metal amps will not do. Like I said this amp will do it all: jazz, blues, country, classic rock, hard rock, pop, and metal. I use a 59 Gibson Les Paul and Electro-Harmonix pedals, and my tone sounds amazing.
Since I got this amp, I have retired my Marshalls, Fenders, Randalls, and Peaveys.
Negatives: None! Positives: Mesa Quality is surpassed by no one.
The Mesa Boogie Mark Series are the finest made amps on the market.
