I think it is this choice of POV that gives the frenetic pace to the story. There is a sense from the beginning that the main character is having some major mental problems. Something is just off kilter in his behavior and it only worsens. I found myself sympathizing with everyone he came in contact with, even the most reprehensible characters in the story, and I was scared he was going to kill any one of them. Because I just knew the main character was going to hurt someone. The action escalates pretty quickly and after a few chapters, I was hooked and on the edge of my seat. I couldn't put it down but had to in order to give my nerves a break.
I was relieved when I finished the book but not disappointed. Just when I thought it was over, there was a twist in the finally I didn't see coming but which I found satisfying.
At the beginning I was a little confused, until I realised we are inside the head of a
seriously damaged mind. I wondered more than once where the author learned
about the topic. Along with this insight we are given a cast of interesting and well
described characters, in a setting that is very clear in our minds. After the groundwork
is done, we are not at all prepared for the shock that follows. From that point till the
final page the tempo gets faster by the page, and the suspense keeps up with it. I don't want to
spoil any part of this satisfying read for you so I will just say my title for this review means that this
book has all the elements required for a very good read, all tied together with an exceptional ribbon.
My only complaint is the same I have seen from other readers: e-books need to be proofed for spelling errors, incorrect word use, omissions of words and grammatical errors.
But the book itself is fantastic. I gave it 4 stars!
