Spiritual teacher Jennifer O'Neill has put together her own collection of 180 inspirational quotes to help you work on your own inner peace. The physical copy of the book is supposed to have a slider bar along which you can run your finger. When you feel compelled to stop, open up the page where the bar has landed. That is meant to be your message of the day, week, or in whatever moment you need one. Or, you may do like I did, and read straight through.

I read straight through because I obtained a free Kindle copy from BookRooster.com for the purposes of reviewing the title. What I found were many words of wisdom about the power of the Universe, that could apply to anyone who has some sort of faith in a higher power. I am a believer in the power and the messages of the Universe, so appreciated that point of view.

A lot of the ideas seemed like common sense ones that have been around for quite some time. But Jennifer tried to make the ideas her own. And what is common sense to some people is a foreign concept to many others. One such idea is "Happiness is a choice, not a side effect...." My personal favorite from the book was "Sometimes when you are putting things off, the Universe likes to give you a little shove, that's when it's saying to you, the timing is good now!" That is how my life always seems to operate.

This book is one that some people will want to purchase in physical form, to set by the bed or on the coffee table. I have a harder time flipping through this type of book in an electronic format. But for others, it will help to be able to carry it with them to read on their favorite e-reader or app whenever the mood strikes.

I started using this Kindle version of the book by moving the slider, as per the instructions. I was not inspired by any of the quotes I landed on so started reading in succession hoping to find it got better. Not so. The quotes were mostly those that have been around and we've heard them all before except the author tried to re-word them to make them her own, and not written very well at that. Some were just common sense and some made no sense at all. There were no "aha" moments and nothing to make you stop and think. I found most of them to be preachy and condescending to the reader with words like "never"s, "should"s and "don't"s used often.

In one quote she says "The Universe is a mind reader" In another "The Universe cannot tell the difference between if you want something to happen, or you do not want something to happen," Well which is it?

Sorry, I wanted to find inspiration in this book, but it just didn't cut it for me.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my review.

I love quotes. I love to use quotes. I love collections of quotes. When I received the invitation to read Jennifer O'Neill's book I jumped at it, though I was a bit hesitant over the title. To me, "Inspirational" usually means religious. And while I am a Christian I frequently find quotes and inspirational material condescending to a childless, single woman. So I was encouraged by this collection as it is more karmic than religious/spiritual. Many references to the Universe. Many instances where you could substitute "God" in the place of "Universe" and get a divine direction.

I did find that there were a few places that were almost contradictory--quotes that tell you to relinquish control of your life in order to enjoy it more, and then quotes that tell you to take control of your own life so that you can take your desired direction. Just made me laugh.

I think this is the first time that I have used the highlight feature on my Kindle, though. I've had it over a year, so that's something! :)

I came here this morning to write a review on what I felt was a very good book of inspirational quotes. I was a bit disheartened to see the amount of reviews that were either "so-so" or negative. I sure didn't feel that way.

Let me just say that first and foremost, I'm not a quotes kind of guy, generally. With that said, when something like this speaks to me, I feel inclined to speak back.

I found the quotes within to be helpful if not inspirational. This falls right in line with other works by Jennifer that I've read.

The thing is, not all of the quotes in a book like this will apply to all people. Some of these don't fit my life right now but they might in the future. Others were spot on. Exactly how a book like this works in my opinion.

Please don't be turned off by any less than perfect reviews here. I think it is worth the download just to have it in my Kindle for when the universe seems inclined to push me in the direction of a little guidance.

This author covers a big range of quotes. I find them practical, inspiring and even occasionally amusing. Read one daily it will help you, however I disagree with this author about Reincarnation and Spiriitual Memory Banks so I will stick to the inspirational quotes and do have several highlighted so I can go back and enjoy them again.

Really wanted to like this one, but my definition of "inspirational" and Miss O'Neill's are not the same one. If you are looking for spiritual inspiration, this one is not it. Maybe, she was afraid of offending someone! But the "universe" does not inspire, help, or touch life, but God does!
