From the manufacturer
Messermeister pioneered the original simple slide on and off plastic Edge-Guard. Today, it remains the best inexpensive guard on the market and has now evolved into a fashionable and functional safety accessory for your knife blade. On the go chefs and home cooks shouldn't risk the danger of carrying sharp knives or having them loose in a drawer without a Messermeister Edge-Guard.
Two Blade Notch Entry
Two blade notch entry makes it easy to enter the knife from the left or right of the knife guard.
Black & Translucent Colors
Messermeister Edge-Guards come in either our classic black or in vibrant translucent colors. Translucent color blades let you see the blades that are inside the Edge-Guards.
Slim & Wide Blades Sizes
Whether it is a Chef's knife or a carving knife, Messermeister has knife guards that fit the width of your blade.

I have no complaints at this point. They do what they are meant to do without excess bulk and at a reasonable price. Highly recommended for anyone with kitchen knives that are not in a block.
These work okay, but I noticed that they weren't very secure on thinner knives, including a nikiri and santoku. They moved with relative ease, which isn't what you want in a knife guard. You want the edge guard to have a nice secure grip on the blade. The Messermeisters unfortunately have a slightly larger gap than the Ultimate Edge edge guards.
Another thing I found was that it required a bit more attention to install on the knife. While the Ultimate Edge edge guards have slightly flared openings, these Messermeisters are straight with notched the corners on one side. It's very hard to see in the photo since it's black. But zoom in and you'll see it. The problem is that more often then not you catch your blade on the square corner when trying to slide it into the edge guard. It's a bit annoying sometimes. But it's not that big of a deal, really. I just wonder if they did that just to get around a patent.. Who knows.
Unless you *really* have to have black or blue edge guards, go with the Ultimate Edge brand edge guards which are more secure and easier to use.
I did make an adjustment to suite my own paranoia.
As made, it allows a very small portion of the blade to be uncovered. I trimmed one end at an angle to match the angle of the handle on my knife. Now the entire blade is covered.
Grandkids, other guests, and even I can now handle the covered blades with impunity.
Sarcasm aside, I prefer to have the entire length of the cutting edge protected from nicks and dings.
I not only recommend these covers but I also bought extras to include with the Victorinox knives I gave the other cooks in my extended family.
This was an issue for both a Victorinox slicer and a Mercer Millenia bread knife.
Fortunately the plastic is easy enough to trim with a pair of sturdy scissors. The picture shows the fit pre-adjustment on 2 knives and post-adjustment on one of them.
