I ordered this julienne peeler because I thought I would prefer this angle of peeling (it's used like a potato peeler)--and I do. I can create a full bowl or two of zucchini or cucumber "pasta" with it easily. Any more and I'd be tempted to get a spiralizer, but, being a minimalist, I love this gadget. The teeth are very sharp, so I do keep the plastic cover on while it's in the drawer and ease it on/off carefully. Quick delivery & great price, too!

I use this to make squash noodles for cold salads and it works great. No jamming or rusting and it even comes with a blade shield to protect your hand as you dig around looking for stuff in your kitchen drawer. I put a big fork in the stem end of a horizontal squash and zip it along, very little waste and no veggies jumping all over the cutting board :)

For $8, what's not to like? I've only used it on zucchini so far, but the juliennes have been first class. That being said, this is definitely not a $50 appliance, and it has its shortcomings.

PROS:
- super slim julienne. Your French grandmother would be impressed.
- inexpensive, so if it turns out it's not a win for you, you haven't wasted $30.
- very simple to use: as easy as peeling a carrot.
- safer than a julienne for clumsy people like me - but not foolproof. I'll still be getting a kevlar glove.
- super slip profile: you want to julienne something? It's not a big production with a big slicing tool like a mandoline or a spiral slicer.
- easy to clean (way easier than one of the bigger tools).

CONS:
- a LOT of waste on a medium softness veggie like zucchini. I was using smaller sized zucchinis (maybe 1.5 inches diameter), and once you get about half way through the zucchini's diameter, the zucchini often breaks, so then you have clumps that are too small to really julienne. This is too bad. In that respect, it makes the tool expensive, insofar as you have to buy more veg than you actually plan to use. -- I expect it's less of an issue on harder veg like carrots and potatoes, and on larger zucchini.
- I think it's considerably safer than a mandoline, but you can still shred your finger tips. So if you have a tendency to cut yourself in the kitchen as I do (e.g. slicing into a nail when chopping veg, or slicing your finger when hand washing knives), then I would recommend getting a kevlar or other safety glove to use with it.

Conclusion: I'll probably be getting a spiral slicer for when I want to make a big julienne salad, to mitigate the two main issues: finger-slicing risk, and vegetable wastage.

Whips the skin off every veggie and fruit you can think of. So sharp you may whip the skin off your fingers. Professional quality and I would not be without it. Keep the cover on it while not in use so there are no kitchen drawer accidents. Excellent product.

Wow, just got this little gadget last week...and it's PERFECT! I've started including more raw vegetable dishes in my diet, and so ordered this so that I could get a thin noodle-like effect on raw zucchini. It does a great job! Exactly what I was looking for.

Now, if anyone wants a fantastic recipe, search the web for "Pasta Buddhanesca" - sooooooooo good.

This is designed for right handed users. Left handed users have to use it "backwards", which means cutting toward yourself. And it's sharp, so that is dangerous.

Suggestion, one zuchinni and one carrot, julienne, stir fry in olive oil, season and say goodbye to noodles.
The cutter does all the work for you.

They developed the peeler to make peeling potatoes easier. And it is still easier! Now it is easier to add shoestrings of color and taste to any dish. Any firm vegetable can be peeled with the shoestring peeler to add taste and color in a textured way to dishes. Expecially salad. I hate diced celery, carrots and cucumber in my salad. Taste is great but you need a spoon to eat diced stuff in with lettuce. So...?? Shoestring it with a peeler. Easier to eat and more fun. Try adding a few vegetables in shoestring shape but mix it up. Then take the pile of shoestring and add it to your hamburger bun at the next Bar-B-Q. Throw some shreaded cheese in the mix and WOW the guests. Experiment, make coal slaw with your peeler. You'll never want to be without it.
