In Illusions: The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah, Richard Bach met Donald Shimoda, a fellow pilot with the keys to the universe who barnstormed the Midwest in a Travel Air biplane. Part of Shimoda’s secret was a small book, bound in what looked like suede―Messiah’s Handbook: Reminders for the Advanced Soul. “Open it,” he said, “and whatever you need to know is there.” Lost for decades and rediscovered, here it is in print at last―reminders for those who have outgrown cynicism and doubt.

I started using the book as instructed. I held a burning question in my head - something I'd be wrestling with for a while - and decided to open the book to a random page. Bang! The answer I needed. Yeah, yeah, we make meaning out of the data around us. I know.
But then I did it a second time this morning for an even bigger issue and wham! I meant the kind of quote that made me question my entire perspective on the issue. The result? I instantly shifted my assumptions and created a more productive forward. Nine hours later, I still feel terrific about my new stance.
Maybe it's just coincidence...twice. But I already know I'll be turning to this book when I need some help finding answers.
DO NOT READ THIS BOOK UNTIL YOU READ THE DIRECTIONS in the introduction. This book is not intended to be read. It is intended to be referenced. It is a sophisticated Magic 8 Ball, and it has value. After reading the directions and using the manual as it is intended to be used, I love it. It sets on my desk at work and I do use it weekly.

I'm delighted to have got hold of the lost handbook and it is all I hoped for. The simple "Koan-esque" truths just keep coming, and I look forward to the time when I don't have to riffle through and decide where to stop, but can just rely on the book to open for me, just where I need it to....
When I get some spare cash I think I'll buy a couple more copies!
A Guide for the Enlightened Soul - Great to finally have all of the Donald Shimoda writings in one place.
My only observation was that the quote about Perspective was missing - I wonder why?
