I actually don't hate it. I love it, but I got two disc 6's in the package. It was the strangest thing. Then I couldn't reorder because the source store was "out of stock". Ugh!!!

since amazon doesn't list the tracks OR the "artists" available on this compilation, for those of you considering this massive collection, let me provide the track list for you. One of the reasons I got this collection is because the very first song is Metallica's very first demo "Hit the Lights" an almost impossible to find song. Unfortunately, it's the ONLY metallica song on here. But there are many other gems buried in here and the DVD is chock full of lots of music videos for your feasting pleasure. One thing I enjoyed is that each disc is a nice mix of bands, so you can pop one in and have a nice mixed cd of bands to listen to. Or you burn the whole thing to your computer and weed out the bands you don't like and make your own mix (which is what I ended up doing)... there's ALOT of bands on here and this is a really great value. Even for the $60 I originally paid for this in 2002. There were only 5000 originally produced so pay attention to the production number of your box when you get it ... the lower the number supposedly the more valuable it will be to collectors.

Growing up with most of these bands, it was nice to have a good overview of the Metal Blade bands. Since I found myself owning alot of Metal Blade records and a few like King's X, Fate's Warning, Mercyful Fate are bands I enjoy, it was worth owning. I give it 4 stars for the few death metal bands on it that don't appeal to me. But if you can get one, I recommend it for owning a piece of metal history.

Again, thumbs up for the overall track listing (which is mainly in chronological order) and the huge book is worth the expensive boxset price. Mainman Brian Slagel gives opinions on every song, all of the info about each band and the album covers to boot. The pictures included are amazing as well. It actually makes you feel like you were kinda there as we all grew up with these songs/time period. The downfall? As much as I salute Slagel and company for "keeping metal alive" I didn't really agree with the bands they chose to represent it. Regardless a boxset worth it to re-live the glory days and you will find a nugget or 30 that slipped by you the first round.

There is a LOT of great music here, there is no argument about that. It just seems like the same hand full of bands are scattered about 9 CDs. With 20 yrs under their belt, I thought this package would be a lot more diverse.

Nine CD's, one DVD, theres alot of music on this box set. If you're a long time metalhead or you are familiar with most of these bands then I wouldn't be suprised if you have this box set already. For everybody out there who loves metal but aren't that familiar with these bands, GET THIS SET! Theres so much good music on this from people you might not hear that often (if at all). Its a great compilation of really great music, thats what it is. They only made 5,000 of these so you better get a set before it runs out.
