There's also a cool art gallery in the back that has concept and design art for the bosses, as well as one for the different types of cyborg enemies. The lithograph is really nice as well, and the guide itself is pretty high quality.
The guide is engineered to help players complete the game on all difficulties from Normal to Revengeance with S ranking in all levels. And of course it comes with the other essentials (collectibles, secrets, weapon and enemy statistics, trophies/achievements, etc.) There's also a section near the end for VR missions. All in all, it is a complete guide packed with all the good detail.
Being a collector's edition guide, it of course has some collector's edition flare. Flashy hardcover, snazzy art, and an exclusive character gallery make this a must own for those who enjoy Metal Gear and its unique art design.
If I had any gripes about this guide, it's that I'm used to strategy guide pages being full color. What I mean by that is that this guide is full color, but there are plenty of white spaces on the pages. This is no problem though, just a personal opinion.
This is a great guide, both for game completion and for your Metal Gear collection.
Detailed analysis of every level, weapon, enemy type and boss for all difficulties, ranging from the obvious maps and item locations to the minute changes in gameplay properties between difficulties. Any and everything you could ever want to know about how this game is meant to be played and how it works is detailed in this sturdy, hardback book that's as much a collectible as it is a textbook meant to be used and paged through over and over again. It also includes a small(very small)Yoji Shinkawa illustration printed on card stock(...bristol?), numbered for the collectors among you.
This edition also includes a(spoiler-filled)making-of section featuring sketches and notes from the creators of the game.
This is what every strategy guide publisher should aspire to. This is what you get from Piggyback with this book.
For a game you'll most likely never trade in, and play in the future, it's quite essential, and beautiful.
I have, and apparently always will love the Metal Gear Series, and the new game is wonderful; this edition compliments it perfectly.
Also, I'm not sure if the details tell you it's a hardbound edition, but it is, and I should not it is bound well, and hasn't creased, cracked, or fallen apart as some hard-bounds do. Well made!
I actually bought this one for the tips (although it is a nice guide to collect). I'm not much of this type of action gamer. Typically the only actions games I play are FPS. I'm more of an RPG man.
I think the guide is great! It gives really useful tips on how to play the game without spoiling the story. I really couldn't get far until I read the tips on combat. A lot of this stuff should have been included in the manual but isn't. Although the VR missions can teach you some of the stuff.
Great guide IMHO.
It is the perfect companion for the game and I would recommend it to every MGR:R player!
As a sidenote I just wanted to point out that this guide does not cover any of the DLC episodes/chapters (Jetstream Sam, Wolf, VR Missions Pack).
