I personally think this game is a masterpiece, which really caught me off guard when I heard all the wildly different reviews. It's a very fun Metal Gear spinoff, which has given me quite a bit of fun thus far.
I say spinoff because it doesn't feature the main protagonist Snake or a political espionage theme, but rather it takes place in a bizarre abandoned world full of crystal monsters, lol.
I say first and foremost, don't let the headlines about Hideo Kojima sway you, I think it does much honor to his legacy. Myself, I consider it to be like the Snake's dream minigame of Phantom Pain- just multiplayer and much more in-depth. It's not really just the "zombies" either, there's all kinds of weird alien crystal creatures in that world. It's good for people who liked past games like Peacewalker, and don't mind something with a little less story and a little more gameplay. It wont scratch that itch for philosophy and military intrigue though, so if you have that, probably best to pop in Snake Eater, Peacewalker, or Phantom Pain. But if you want to kill a bunch of monsters in a weird world and play as a character other than Snake all the time? Survive is a good supplement, I recommend it.
It can be a bit frustratingly hard to begin because of the sharp learning curve, and Fox Engine graphically isn't as pretty as the one in Phantom Pain, but it runs smoother than silk even 4 player coop online- and I'm sure that was the idea. You can also wear those awesome MSF balaclavas from Peacewalker, so I'm pretty much the target audience for this game.

Im a fan of Metal Gear and love this franchise to death. After Kojima left I didn't know what was next for the series. Metal Gear Survive is the answer and its not exactly what I as a fan wanted. Did you enjoy Vs fluid and responsive control along with the freedom to approach all its missions from a different angle each time? The fluid control is gone in this game due to an added hunger and thirst system that will degrade how high your health and stamina can go. The story of V wasn't exactly winning any Oscars and kind of just dropped off at an indiscriminate point leaving me as a fan with no questions but no resolutions to things that I wanted to see. Well this game has a story that is trying really hard to hold your attention. I dont blame the developers for trying because the effort is evident when you look at the game and its story that it is trying to present.
Look if you're thinking of buying this game Ill put it simply for you. If you want to experience the most conceptually uninteresting train wreck in history then buy this. It might hold your attention for 10 bucks but I wouldn't put money on that. After 5 hours the game is still trying to tell you how to play it with tutorial messages.
TLDR: Its just kind of boring and for 10 bucks just being kind of bored of a not terrible experience isn't what you should be using that 10 bucks for. Go buy a good indi game or a okay dinner for you and your significant other. If this is what Metal Gear is now then id rather just play something else, or take a nap.

I’ll admit I didn’t get into MGS until Ground Zeroes, but admire the more slower paced action stealth games from the early 2000s.
I was a huge fan of Phantom Pain’s cinematic story, so going from that to this was a huge punch to the gut. The story of this game is pretty much either a copy and paste of similar plot points and non existent.
As a fan of survival games though, there is something that does work in it, but I can’t put my finger on it. Calling it a Metal Gear Solid game though is a sin as the stealth is laughable.

I'm a Metal Gear fan so I'll try to be objective in this short review. Repetitive; unrealistic hunger and thirst depletion for you and at base camp; complicated crafting, storehouse, and repository menus that are never fully explained; unbalanced gameplay and time consuming grinding throughout. I'm level 62 right now. Killed 3 end game bosses. Trying to increase my level to 69 so that I can try to kill level 69 Frostbite. If you like co-op then you might enjoy this game. If you like single player (like me), then acquiring weapon, gadget, and gear upgrades that only come from co-op kinda sucks. Overall, this game can be fun and addictive, but also feel like work.

A new take on the metal gear solid series. They basically stole some ideas from fall out and threw them in this. Overall I do like the game, it's very challenging, it helps you stay organized with your home base, keeping all of your crew alive/healthy/busy. One thing I don't like is the fact that you're hunger and thirst run down EVEN if you're at home base, but yet your oxygen gets automatically replenished when you get back? That is the dumbest concept of this game. Period. But it's still fun, once you get the hang out of it it's really not that bad. You do need to be smart about collecting all of the supplies while you're out exploring. The further along in the story you get the more features become unlocked and you can start farming animals and collecting/purifying water so that you've got food and water available without dying so freaking much! I actually got to a point where I couldn't find any more animals and rage quit the entire game...but then started over again and was able to get a better start at it again.
There are certain times where you get lucky and are able to defend the wormhole digger and not have it get destroyed, but you better be on your A-game. You have to completely stock up on weapons AND ammo every time you go out because these damn wanderers are EVERYWHERE.

I really like this game. It’s fun not overly difficult story is entertaining. Rpg elements and base builders are engaging. I play it regularly and that in itself is a good review.

and killing a bunch of mindless drones was pretty fun. Not much replay ability in the story

The game was playable, as long as you do not go in expecting a true Metal Gear game. There was no really story, but having to build up a base, defend it, and killing a bunch of mindless drones was pretty fun. Not much replay ability in the story, but multiplayer seems a bit interesting. Not for everyone, but at least check out some gameplay before you say no.

I quite enjoy the challenge of managing all the various factors in this game. Hunger, thirst, oxygen, combat. It gets pretty intense. Take your time and enjoy! And the price was right!
