Scarlet is not your typical 18 year old virgin. I liked her and she didn't drive me crazy like I have experienced in the past. She makes mistakes, can be too nice - but, she knows what's up and I think she does a good job of trying to experience life on her terms.
When it came to the twist (no spoilers) I would say if I had an issue with this book it would be that. I knew intellectually that it was going to be life changing for Scarlet but I didn't feel the impact on an emotional level. I saw it coming but when it did I just felt disconnected.
Scarlet has 3 guys in her life, Ash, Dylan and Mason. By the end of the book she picks one and it isn't necessarily the one I expected but I loved the explanation as to why. I thought - wow, a girl who is putting things into perspective, taking out as much emotion as possible and actually being rational. I was feeling that this book was at around a 4 for me at this point.
THEN I READ THE EPILOGUE and holy crap! There is a 2nd book and I wasn't thinking - ugh, there's a second book, I was whispering screaming - THERE'S A 2ND BOOK!!!! It WAS 3:30 in the morning.
I loved that she mentioned other books in here and I had to immediately buy Ruining Me!
I ended up LOVING this book! Enjoy!
Scarlett is an interesting character. She has had a completely sheltered life and her only saving grace was her BFF Evie. The best thing for Scarlett was going away with Evie to college and getting to spread her wings.
I loved the book boyfriend discussions between Evie and Scarlett. It was so enjoyable because I have read and loved the books they mentioned. I found the try a new type of BB every weekend to be an enticing setup. What I didn't expect was the book to end up being somewhat of a love triangle.
So I really am not gonna say much about Dylan because, well, he didn't start any fires for me. But Ash and Mason, well, that is a whole different story. Ash frustrated me during this book and surprisingly Mason wound up being the more stand up guy IMO. They both have their positive points but it really is only Mason that I saw make an effort to actually be with Scarlett. OK, yes the epilogue is Ash's POV did get to me, but not enough.
Scarlett was a little disappointing as a heroine. Her indecision was somewhat annoying but I get how the heart, head and body can all get confused, especially with all the experiences being new and her being so young.
Somewhat disappointing is the twist in the story. I figured something was gonna happen. Disappointment came in that except for Max, I never had the gut wrenching experience I love in these NA books. Scarlett's decision at the end, on the other hand, definitely got to me. I am so glad that I don't have to wait to read the next book.
"Cheese and rice, Scarlett, you go from telling me you are scared to talk to a college boy to telling me you want to find an older man that's into bondage and whips I'm not sure if there's a local Billionaire BDSM club that we can just waltz in and make our selection," - Evie
"I started laughing uncontrollably at her last comment as I envisioned the two of us walking up to an office building trying to find our version of an ultimate. She was right, I needed to take baby steps before I found myself blindfolded and restrained to a cross on a wall trying to remember my safe word, anticipating the crack of a whip across my skin" - Scarlett
"There he was concerned that I had been abused as a child while I was fantasizing about a hidden red room of pain" - Scarlett
"Every so often in life, you randomly cross paths with someone that touches you in a way that you really can't explain, but somehow you know that you will never be the same again. A person that is unknowingly, so incredibly beautiful, both inside and out, that they truly take your breath away. Recently, I met someone exactly like that. As a matter of fact, I'm still not convinced that she isn't an angel here to protect me from myself and the rest of you crazies" - Mason
"There's a Psyche for every Eros, an Elizabeth for every Darcy, an Abby for every Travis,"
"There could not be a better portrayal of you, Scarlett, than a butterfly. Butterflies symbolize various things across different cultures; however, the most common association is that of metamorphosis, or a time of transformation and change."
LOVED THIS BOOK <3
