I was having a real problem with severe constipation caused by medication I am taking. I mean it got scary bad and I was really worried if the rest of my life would have this problem. I made the mistake of thinking a laxative was the answer, although it did bring temporary relief (that one time), it was a mess to say the least. I talked to my physician about this problem and he said do not take the laxatives (they are an irritant), but to try a fiber product such as Metamucil. I thought Metamucil was for "old people", for "sick people" and such. So I got on Amazon (of course) and bought this product and started using it exactly as the instructions say to.

It has been an AMAZING transformation. Very quickly, my constipation problem began to go away until it was never a problem again. I noticed that I became much more healthier in my digestive system. It worked better, felt better and I am sure it was MUCH BETTER for my body health wise. I have to say that I was a little put off by some of the moderately graphic phrases that some reviewers said such as "cleanest wipe you will ever have" and "smooth as butter" and whatever. BUT, these people were exactly correct. The things that they said were completely true. I will get graphic myself since I want people to know. When you go, you will know it is time, and there is no running to the bathroom suddenly. There is no struggle, no waiting, no straining. You just go and everything comes out just the way it should. Very easy. Now, when you do use that toilet paper, you will be amazed that there just is no "residue" on that paper. Clean as a whistle both on the paper and your down under. Honestly, I don't know how or why, it just is.

This product will change your life for the better in several ways. Your daily functioning will be much smoother. You will probably lose some inches from the waist. Your bloodwork results will probably be more positive. You will be healthier. I wish I had known about this product a long time ago! What other things are out there that I should have know about, I wonder!

The orange sugar free tastes great, like Tang or even orange juice. I put a heaping teaspoon of powder in a normal sized glass of water, stir it immediately and down the hatch. I stir again halfway down to make sure there is not a bunch waiting for me at the bottom of the glass. I don't mind the taste or the grit or anything. It's all good. I love this stuff and what it does for me! I will be using it for the rest of my life.

First and foremost: don't buy this on Amazon. Paying in the $20 range is obscene. I found this at my local Walmart and Kroger for $10-$15. Now then, this works EXTREMELY well. I'm not even joking. I went from not going #2 for days at a time to going regularly at 3 pm everyday.

Here's some tips to maximize the usefulness of this product.

1) Use it at the same time everyday in the same way. No matter what. I personally use it twice a day; once at 4pm and once at 10pm.

2) To make it taste not nasty, don't eat or drink anything (besides water) for at least 30 minutes prior to using this. I find that if you do that, it actually tastes kinda nice (a sweet orange flavor). If you eat anything that's even remotely sweet prior to using Metamucil, the Metamucil tastes disgusting.

3) Buy the sugar free version (the one with the blue ribbon). It has fewer calories, you have to use less powder per dose, and it tastes better. The per day cost are pretty much the same.

4) It takes a couple days for the effects to fully set in. Start out with one dose a day for a few days before going onto two doses. And so on and so forth. I personally find that twice a day is perfectly sufficient. The instructions say three times a day though.

5) When it's time to take a dose, put the teaspoon of powder into a decent sized cup (at least one that can hold 1 US cup). Just pour room temperature water (too hot and it tastes gross; too cold and the powder won't dissolve) into the cup. Fill it most of the way up; not to the point where it's at risk of spilling. Then, use something to stir it up until the powder is mostly dissolved. Drink it, fast. The powder separates from the water quite quickly. Once you've finished drinking, fill the cup back up with water, stir, and drink the entire cup of water.

Prepare to enter bathroom nirvana.

I'm sold on Metamucil. I use the powder once a day, sometimes 2-3 times depending on the junk I've consumed. I put 2 rounded teaspoons in about 8oz. of water and drink it quickly. The taste is good, but it's pretty thick, and if not stirred well, can be gritty. But I ignore that for the benefits. If you let it sit too long in your glass, it becomes quite gelatinous, which is what's great for your plumbing! I've read it's not a good idea to take with your meds as it can cause them to get flushed away with the product. But using it right after a meal of a hamburger and french fries is supposed to really help them digest better. And in my opinion, that's true. I still use Benefiber in my coffee in the mornings, but you don't get the same amount of fiber in the same serving. In fact, it's half the amount. But Benefiber is so easy to put into anything, so I still use it. So if you're someone that needs a lot of fiber in their diet, and some of us do need more than others, I really recommend Metamucil in some form, everyday. Cheers!
