Tyler is 13, extremely smart, football player, great son, boyfriend and superhero. Now has to fight a crazy scientist who he thought he already dealt with.
The story is very well written. It has great action and his girlfriend is a refreshingly down to earth girl. For young teen boys I can see them being interested. It has a great lesson. It was nice to see a guy who had it all not be a bully. I wish I would have read the first book. Even though I hadn't read the first one I was still able to follow along pretty well. Everything was explained beautifully.
This is a positive interpretation thru fantasy that will not warp our youth, but enshrined the fantasy with reality.
The excitement of having superpowers brings hard choices for the maturing teen. Tyler is fascinated with having blinding speed and an impenetrable force field; but he is still a teen boy with all the roller-coaster-like challenges of a teen’s life that young readers could easily identify with. That’s precisely what makes the main character so authentic and believable. Not only does he have a superb intellect and a black belt in karate, and takes college classes at just 13 years of age, but also he is simply solid and fun. The important thing, though, is that these powers give him the potential to “Rise Above” in the first place. Together with his friends, his first love, and his faithful dog Maxx, Tyler sets out to uncover many unexpected secrets about Area 51, his missing grandpa, the evil scientist Dr. Payne and his associates, and much else that will surprise.
Written in the best traditions of sci-fi mystery, the story will keep you on “the edge of your seat” until you breathlessly reach the last page. This is an excellent, inspiring read that takes a deserved place in the respected world of Young Adult literature.
