So the vinyl itself is awesome. Very good transfer. On my vinyl setup ($1500) for turntable and speakers, it sounds great. Happy with that…but the sleeve is a piece of garbage that feels like it was printed on my mom’s computer printer. I’ll take care of it and it will be fine. But for collectors…it’s awful. But just as a fan, I’ll make do.

I have to be honest. I am a 1980's Metal Head and in my High school "daze" I too did not see the value of the Hip Hop movement when it emerged as "Break Dancing" and thin "beat box" sound samples. I ended up into Thrash Metal than Crossover (AKA DRI, Dr Know, Accused, COC) To think that the new age of hip hop influenced Metal is anything close to that of the earlier breed is plain blind! The simple fact remains that music evolves with time. If you can't move on with the times then you will be lost in the past. Limp Bizkit, Kid Rock and even last years new Vanilla Ice CD (YES! The Ice man has erased his lame past in my eyes with his new CD!) are examples of the new wave of Metal. Metal is still Metal, the latest players in this venue are just a reflection of what the world of music has become. The Methods of Mayhem CD is bar far the best example of what IS METAL in the year 2000! Tommy has used his industry talent to assemble a group of his peers to launch this CD to the top. Not just good music but GREAT MARKETING! Tommy throws vocals like I've never heard proving even more that he is a FORCE in Metal from the 80's through the 90's and still climbing in the new millennium! I don't hype anything... EVER.... But this one it the sh_t! Get it, or get out you lame RATT and Twisted Sister Lp's and sit in your trailer and beat your fat wife!

Kid Rock drunk off his rear on steroids is Methods of Mayhem. Parental Guidance is strongly suggested. Motley Crue meets NWA meets Public Enemy meets DMX. Metal and rap combine better than I have ever heard it before. Not Run DMC, not Kid Rock(although close), not Limp Bizkit, NOBODY jams harder than the Mayhem! "Get Naked" with Lil Kim and Pam Anderson on the video where NOTHING is left to the imagination! Not just rock, this is METAL and HARDCORE RAP combined for a decadent, stripper club sound that has yet to be topped!

Ce disque sorti en 2000 surfe sur une tendance initiée 10 ans plus tôt : la fusion rap & métal. Avec Tilo, ex-membre de (Hed)pe au chant, Stephen Perkins derrière les fûts (eh oui, car Tommy Lee chante aussi et tient la guitare rythmique), Chris Chaney à la basse, Kai Marcus à la guitare lead et Mix Master Mike aux platines, le groupe aligne missile après missile.

Chant rap, lyrics vitriolés scandé sur un flow rageur et efficace, riffs bien métal soutenu de solides murs de grattes, le tout soutenu par une section rythmique en béton.

Si rien n'est à critiquer du coté non seulement de la qualité technique des zicos, mais aussi du coté de la prod et du son (énormes), c'est l'inspiration qui selon moi laisse à désirer. pas forcément évident de pondre des mélodies imparables avec un chant rap ? faux, RATM l'a bien démontré. Seulement, MoM propose un répertoire relativement monolithique, dont j'attendais beaucoup plus. On m'avait vanté chaudement "New Skin", pour laquelle je pensais me faire atomiser... il n'en fut rien. Ce titre, à l'image des autres, jouît d'un travail impeccable, certes, mais souffre, comme les autres, d'une trop forte ressemblance avec ses co-listiers.

Au final, un disque pas foncièrement remarquable si on le remet dans le contexte des RATM, Downset et autres chantres du rap/nu métal, mais néanmoins bon à écouter... une fois. Je conseille plutôt "Broke" ou "Only in Amerika" de Hed Pe, à la limite.
