I live in a very rural part of NC and have trouble picking up AM and FM stations in my vehicle. I installed his antenna (with power connection) and noticed an immediate difference on AM and FM bands.

I put an after market deck in my 2000 Monte Carlo about a year ago. The immediate downside to the project was the loss of AM reception. I used the adapter for the existing stock antenna, and tried two or three other after market antennas. This one finally did the trick.

Here's the thing, unlike converting to stock, or the other after market antennas I tried, this one plugged directly into the back of my JVC deck (no converter). That may have played a role, but that point aside, this antenna performs better than the original deck ever did, or the decks in my other vehicles. I had it installed in about 45 minutes, after deciding where to position it and if/where to ground it. In my case, grounding made a huge difference in reducing static.

I live about an hour north of Milwaukee and can now pull in Milwaukee (and Chicago) AM stations clear as a bell, and was actually listening to a station out of Eastern Iowa for kicks. I can finally listen to sports again!!! FM reception wasn't an issue with my other antennas, and this one seems to pull in everything up and down the dial. Your mileage may vary, but I found this to be the perfect solution to my reception problem AND easy to install.

For some reason it works better if you don't tape the ends of the antenna to the glass. I covered up the little red LED because every time I looked in the rearview at night I though the Terminator was coming after me.

I purchased this antenna because I have an older vehicle and the stock antenna was no longer working due to the cable becoming rusted. I wanted to test the reception before disassembling the dash and routing the wire, so I temporarily hooked up the antenna wire, power and ground. I was just holding the antenna by the base up on the windshield and using scan to pickup stations. It didn't find any more stations than I could get with my failing antenna, and even the strong local one seemed to have more static than before. I tried moving the antenna to different locations on the windshield to see if that affected performance and inadvertently pulled the power wire off its temporary location and the signal got better! I ended up leaving just the antenna and ground wire hooked up and can now get many stations that I couldn't before, and all local stations come in perfectly.

Summary: Don't hook up power wire.

I got this for our '07 Odyssey, which has the antenna wires in the right rear window and an amplifier. Some time ago the radio reception really fell off to the point we could not get the stations we wanted. I had already replaced the OEM radio / CD player with a JVC head unit, and that didn't help. So, I concluded the antenna amplifier probably quit working and the dealer wanted $100 just to check it out.

Before springing for big bucks to replace the OEM amplifier, I thought I'd try this unit. It meant dismantling part of the dashboard again, but that wasn't so bad since I'd already done that several times when installing the JVC unit. The antenna plug that comes with this antenna plugged right into the JVC antenna input so I didn't need an adapter (the antenna description says an adapter or extension may be needed for some cars, but I didn't need either).

I found the +12vdc lead for the old antenna amplifier and spliced the new antenna's power line into that (the wire is about 18 gauge, so I used a red splice). Then I routed the antenna's signal cable outside the dash and mounted the antenna in the top right of the windshield.

Reception was significantly improved - as good or better than the original. So, the installation isn't as clean as the factory install (because I'm too lazy to route the wires behind trim panels) but it works and after two years of bad reception we're pleased with the results.

This is the same antenna that Crutchfield carries, by the way. If you need tech support, you should buy from them because the instructions and support that come from the seller on Amazon are nonexistent.

I did not have high expectations for this antenna. I was pleasantly surprised at how well it performs considering that it's not a real antenna and it's design is a compromise between size/convenience and performance. I can pull in good reception of a weak NPR station from over 20 miles away. Strangely, when I'm closer to their transmission tower I get a lot of interference from other stations on or near their frequency. This is something I don't experience in my car, which has a long whip antenna. It must have something to do with the directional nature of this design, but I can't be sure.

Installation was very easy. I have it mounted in the right upper corner of my windshield in a truck. I ran the cable down a rubber door gasket and into the dashboard. Make sure you ground the antenna properly, and hook up the amplifier to switched power. If you have an aftermarket radio installed, this will be easy to figure out. You can wire it into the radio's switched power so it doesn't stay on constantly. My experience was that the antenna was unusable without the amplifier powered up. Once you power it the reception is pretty good. For those of you writing that using the amplifier made reception worse - maybe you received a faulty antenna.

My vehicle has a sun visor that runs the length of the entire windshield, otherwise I'd be worried about the adhesive degrading from exposure to sunlight.

This is no match for a real whip, but if installing one is not an option or the installation would be too difficult for you, this is not a bad alternative.
