Micah Joel's books combine geeky characters with cutting-edge technology, whether modern or ancient. He maintains a free and low-volume reading list at http://micahjoel.info/geeks
Micah has dabbled in electronics, programming, astronomy, biomedical signal processing, pen & ink, harmonica, semantics, linguistics, mead brewing, beer judging, deciphering ancient Sumerian cuneiform, XML, chocolatiering, robotics, Tesla Coil design and construction, search engine technology, tabletop gaming, and bookbinding, and reading books on ADHD. So far.
Micah graduated the Viable Paradise writing workshop; an intense week on Martha's Vineyard with John Scalzi, Steven Gould, and Elizabeth Bear, among others. Personal statement: I am situated on the Autism Spectrum, slightly to the side of the large hump in the distribution that well-meaning people call "normal". I prefer the term "neurotypical" (or NT) for these folks, for whom a significant chunk of their precious grey matter is set aside for processing social cues, rather than important things like Dr. Who or vector calculus.
