The display after converting the photos looks amazing!
First of all, it looks amazing with the metal front and very thin design. Its sleek and sharp, just looks great. My previous photo frame by Pandigital was all plastic and looked cheap. The screen is a good size and high resolution so there's a lot of detail in the photos, again a great improvement over the Pandigital that was a blurry mess in comparison. The colors are great and my photos look awesome. I love the fact that this is a "normal" sized frame in that the photos don't get a lot chopped off the sides.
I accidentally discovered the background music feature because the usb drive with my photos also had some music files. It startled me when Adele started singing and took me a few seconds to realize what was going on. It was actually kind of a cool effect. I'll have to play with it some more. The frame has a nicely written manual in real plain English - that in and of itself is pretty amazing too.
I am just really happy that I found a really good replacement for my old frame that decided to put itself out of its misery and died. This replacement I bought from Micca is well made, looks great all around, and shows pictures in awesome quality. Yay!
The frame is fairly easy to use. Plug it in and add your storage device (usb or SD card) and it will automatically start. You can access the menu with the remote or the buttons on the back, and it's pretty self explanatory. The guide that comes with it explains all the different options. One thing to note - sometimes (in the menu) when you view all of the photos, some may look funny or turned upside down, but when I viewed the actual photos they were just fine (it is likely just a glitch in the system). Also make sure you're using only jpeg files - anything else and you'll see a "file not supported" on the photo view page, and of course it will not show those pictures in your slideshow.
Recommendations: crop pictures to widescreen to make them show up best (16:9 or similar - I used the "widescreen photo frame" option in Picasa and that seemed to work best). The best orientation is, of course, landscape because the picture will fill the whole frame; however, square and other sized photos show up great, too. I found color adjustment was needed (I found adjusting contrast made them appear more true-color, less washed out). If you have multiple sized photos (landscape, vertical, square, etc) then using the "auto fit" feature is what will work best ("Full" and "optimal" will blow up all your non widescreen photos and make everything look funny).
The only thing I have not tested is the video or music feature, as I purchased this mainly for the photos. However, I HIGHLY recommend this frame. I bought one as a Christmas gift and then ended up buying two more for my home and office and I'm highly satisfied.
It is VERY easy to set up. One big thing to mention: The buttons on screen look like they could be a touch screen. They AREN'T! Back away from the buttons. Use the remote or the buttons on the back.
I was a little worried because people complained that their picture quality wasn't good on the frame. I don't know what kind of potato quality pictures they were using, but all of the pictures I put on it came out really clear. Keep in mind: I wasn't even using good pictures. I was taking pictures of actual prints with my phone and transferring them to my computer and then to the flash drive, or I was pulling the pictures off of facebook. Some of the REALLY poor quality facebook pictures were kind of "meh" in terms of quality in the frame, but I expected that. Pictures don't get better in quality...duh.
Something I noticed -- and I think this was user error -- is that some of the pictures were portrait but the frame thought they were landscape, so heads were cut off. This happened to I think 3-4 out of 100 pictures, for reference. I think this might have been because when I was taking pictures of prints with my phone, I then had to edit them to cut out the extra space around the print. So it might have confused the frame. Easily fixable.
I really liked the border/frame part of the digital picture frame. I was worried it would look cheap and it doesn't at all, which is nice. I like that you can set it to turn on and off and different times during the day. The little stand that comes attached to it is nice, and the remote is handy. I didn't test videos with it to see how those fared, but next time I'm home maybe I will add some to the frame for my parents.
