Creatively imaginative, stylish withhout being imposing or distracting to the unfolding collage of dramatic moments of an American ikon supported by other personalities of the past. The Score is dramatic and creates beautiful, singable and, importantly, listenable MUSIC. Cast is superb. Production/Sets ingeneous. I loved it. Very happy to have discovered it and have in my collection.

Yes, it's about that Jackie. It takes place after JFKs death as Jackie is recovering. The information says it is the Orfeo legend in reverse- Jackie seeks Jack in the underworld. I'm not sure I follow this. But then there is a lot here that is hard to follow. Linear it ain't. But it is a lot of fun.
I first discovered Michael Daugherty through his Metropolis Symphony - a tribute to Superman. He ranges all over the spectrum from classical to rock. Thank god no serialism.
The general setting is a happening in which Jackie comes out of seclusion. Present are Liz Taylor, Grace Kelly, Andy Warhol, Ari Onassis, and the real delight - Maria Callas. Has any other singer appeared in an opera? The singer here does a terrific job imitating Callas in everything but the voice - but who could?
Enter into the mood of the opera and you can have a delightful time. Is it for the ages? Hardly. But it is a goofy funny excursion back into the 60s. The cast is pretty well competent or better. The production I assume was approved by composer and librettist.
On a negative note - Dynimic is pricing its DVDs out of the range of the average buyer. They charge nearly $40 for an hour and a half of an unknnown work. I'm sure this will deter a number of potential buyers. I try not to pay more than $30 for an item. I hope this is not a trend.
