Michael Frickstad (b. 1951) was born in Berkeley, CA, but eschewed the hippie life of that western metropolis at the wise age of 3, moving with his mother to northern Minnesota. There, among the secluded woods and lakes, he developed a love for learning, which led to the study of math, science, communications, the arts, all of which culminated in teaching degrees in English and social studies. With diplomas in hand, he embarked on a 35-year teaching career in rural and suburban Minnesota high schools, while also coaching speech, theater, and debate. In recognition of his "extraordinary service to the interscholastic speech program," the National Forensic League awarded him their Two Diamond Coach award. Now retired from teaching, Frickstad writes from any flat, smooth, stable surface with an accessible wi-fi connection in or near Ypsilanti/Ann Arbor, Michigan.
