I was a bit leery about this book because so many writers take apart Michael's songs & seem to rip them to shreds This time I was completely wrong!!! This book tells the inside story of the 'original version' of the songs on the Xscape CD (the way that Michael had left them from when he last worked on them) & he tells it through the eyes of the people that were there when each song was recorded then reworked over & over again. You learn what Michael wanted from each song & how he went about getting exactly that. .
I can picture in my mind something that the author relates in the chapter called Xscape. While working on 'You Rock My World' Michael listens to a track recorded then asks who was singing on that track. He's told & the guy is in the room & Michael has him come and quietly sing it into his ear! He does but then realizes that he singing to "Michael friggin' Jackson". I can only imagine!!!!!!!
I truly believe that EVERY Michael Jackson fan needs to read this book to get a better understanding of what Michael was thinking & intending with each song from Xscape. I thank the author ~ Damien Shields ~ for his thoughtful attention to detail & for his time talking to those that were involved with each song to get these stories.
