Blog postThis short video from Russell Heritage talks about something that's hard for many players -- that is, learning when something you're taught as a fundamental really doesn't work with your body. How do you determine whether you should change or not? Russell talks about three 'fundamentals' that don't always help a player, and how to find out (through practice) if you need to 'relax your fundamentals' a bit.
Note that Russell isn't talking about ignoring fundamentals, just not being quiteYesterday Read more -

It's not just watching Paige hit drivers though; one of the Club Champion techs gives you details on each of the drivers before she tests them, including some of the unique features of each driver; and since Paige is testing them in the same mic'd bay, you can hear how each driver sounds. You may find some helpful info here.

Co-sponsored by the LPGA, the DP World Tour and the LET, the ISPS Handa World Invitational puts the men and women out on the same course at the same time. They're separate events rather than team events, but both genders are playing for equal purses of $1.5mil over two venues -- the Galgorm Castle Golf Club and Massereene Golf Club in Ireland.

Blog postIf you know anything about baseball, you know the first strike doesn't really mean anything. It doesn't tell you that the player at bat will strike out. For those of you who aren't familiar with American baseball, there are several things that could happen after a first strike.
Just for your information:

Blog postIf you've followed my blog for any length of time, you know I think ball position is possibly the most important aspect of your golf swing. No matter how good your swing is, if you have your ball in the wrong position for that swing then you won't hit the ball very well.

Calgary hosts this week's event at the Canyon Meadows Golf & Country Club. The most interesting thing about this course is its elevation -- it's 4000 feet above sea level. That means the ball is gonna travel, folks. And since the course is only 7086 yards and par-70, and the event is only 54 holes, that means scores will probably be low.

Blog postIn this short video Mike Malaska explains exactly what it means to "feel" your swing. It's all a function of loading the shaft, and he shows you (with a flexible shafted practice club) how it works. Once you understand this, you'll understand why the proper shaft flex is important -- if the shaft is too stiff, it won't load and you won't feel it; if the shaft is too soft, it loads too much and you can't control it -- and how it affects your sequencing.

Accurate Iron Play: a RuthlessGolf.com Quick Guide
Nov 13, 2013
$4.99
Do you want to attack the pin and leave yourself shorter putts?
Then Accurate Iron Play is the Quick Guide for you. It focuses on the approach shot—what makes it different from a drive for distance—and how it enables you to zero in on your target. It looks at the techniques that improve both distance control and accuracy with your irons:
** Understand the strategic choices involved in approach shots
** "Hold" your wrist cock during the downswing
** Avoid casting from the top
** Make a crisp downward strike on the ball that prevents flipping
** Learn to "dial in" distances with different irons
** Control your trajectory
** And more!
Accurate Iron Play is noticeably longer than other Quick Guides simply because it covers so much material necessary to good iron play. However, the information is still presented in the most direct, condensed format possible so you don't waste time reading about golf when you can be playing instead. The first third of the guide focuses on the factors that affect your shot choices and the remainder of the book focuses on the techniques for actually making those shots.
The techniques for making better approach shots aren't hard to learn, and it doesn't take endless hours on the range to gain an amazing amount of control. All you need is a clear understanding of why the ball behaves as it does and how to choose and use the best iron for the job.
Contains diagrams for both right- and left-handed players.

"Whether you struggle with the swing flaw commonly called 'coming over-the-top' or not, this Quick Guide will probably help your game."
That bold first statement opens "Stop Coming Over-the-Top," but it's true. The vast majority of swing faults in any weekend player's swing can be traced back to a poor takeaway and a poor change of direction at the top of the backswing. Using some simple instruction, a few easy drills, and 35 diagrams, "Stop Coming Over-the-Top" can help any golfer get his swing back on plane, as well as teaching him how to improve distance and accuracy. After learning how an over-the-top move simulates a wood chopping motion, you'll be shown how a correct swing eliminates these errors. In this Quick Guide you'll learn:
** What really causes an over-the-top swing
** How to create a good shoulder coil with a big swing arc
** A simple way to get your swing on plane
** Why your lower body always starts your downswing… but not always correctly
** How to start your downswing correctly every time
** How to "hold" your wrist cock until late in your downswing
** How to stop "chicken-winging"
** And more!
So don't fuss with the symptoms of a poor swing. Attack the real problems and learn the basics of a fundamentally sound swing with "Stop Coming Over-the-Top"!

** Avoid casting from the top
** Develop maximum clubhead speed as you near impact
** Learn how Hogan's supinated wrist position works
** Create a downward strike on the ball that prevents flipping
** And more!

The RuthlessGolf.com Long and Straight Pack

When Mike Southern first developed the RuthlessGolf.com Quick Guides, his goal was to provide short, complete lessons on a single subject that anyone could afford. And his readers responded, usually buying more than one of the titles with each purchase.
Now, based on his readers' feedback, he has created "packs" that combine two complementary Quick Guides, based on some of the most frequently-purchased combos, at an even greater savings over the individual book prices.
The Long and Straight Pack begins with "More Golf Swing Speed," Mike's original Quick Guide. It teaches you the simple downswing move that increases clubhead speed. Within days of its release, readers contacted RuthlessGolf.com, thrilled to report gains of up of 25 yards off the tee.
Paired with it is "HIT IT HARD," a guided sequence of drills that build your swing motion from a basic turn back and through (without a golf club) to a balanced, all-out swing capable of hitting the ball with great accuracy as well as speed.
The Long and Straight Pack will help you develop the mechanics and balance necessary to hit the ball longer and straighter than ever before.

Mike Southern's first putting book, "Ruthless Putting," taught you how to turn your existing putting stroke into a scoring machine.
Now he teaches you how to build a completely new putting stroke from scratch.
When the USGA and the R&A decided to outlaw anchored putting strokes in 2016, it caught many weekend golfers off-guard. Most had gone to the belly putter because they couldn't putt well with a regular-length putter. Those golfers are no longer sure what they should do.
"The Putt Whisperer" explains exactly why the belly putter appears to help some players while not helping others. It teaches you how to build a personalized putting stroke that incorporates all the necessary fundamentals. And it includes drills to teach you how a good stroke feels, and a process to help you develop a stroke you can trust.
But unlike other putting books, "The Putt Whisperer" contains an extended section discussing what it means to have a "light grip pressure." A full 20% of this Quick Guide details the techniques you can use to adjust your grip pressure until you're putting with a repeatable stroke.
Don't struggle to make putts. Become a Putt Whisperer!

Think Like a Golfer: A RuthlessGolf.com Quick Guide
Oct 12, 2014
$6.99
In many ways modern sports psychology is a child of the self-help movement of the early 20th Century. The idea that individuals could easily learn enough psychology to improve their personal performance was radical then, but commonplace today.
However, these early self-help writers built their approach using theological terms which were commonly understood at the time. In our modern world, that is no longer the case—although the terms themselves are still widely used. As a result, much of what passes for sports psychology sounds more like "wishcraft."
In "Think Like a Golfer" Mike Southern, author of the long-running Ruthless Golf blog, teaches you the lost concepts behind the terms... and he does it without writing an evangelistic tract! "The basics of self-belief," he writes, "are the same whether you're talking about belief in God, belief in yourself, or belief that your car will start when you turn the key in the morning."
In this book you'll learn:
** how true self-belief differs from mere self-hypnosis and wishful thinking
** the mechanics of self-belief—how a belief is actually built and grounded in reality so it improves your performance
** why trying to believe "hard enough" rarely works
** what useful self-talk sounds like and techniques for getting dependable results
** how self-belief helps you make better strategy decisions on the course
** how to avoid the pitfalls of self-doubt and deal with pressure
** what "the Zone" is and how it's related to self-belief
Yes, you CAN improve your performance on the golf course. You CAN learn to "Think Like a Golfer"!

The Short Game Pack begins with "Accurate Iron Play," which will teach you the basics of hitting approach shots with every iron in your bag. You'll also learn the basics of hitting your wedges close, as well as how to control the distance and trajectory of your shots.
Paired with it is with "The Putt Whisperer." While Mike recommends his original book Ruthless Putting for most players, The Putt Whisperer was written for players changing over from anchored putters. Its technical explanation of putting mechanics is for players building a stroke from scratch.
