Callie started in the book business as a bookstore manager, which was the perfect place for her since she was an avid reader. After two years, she moved to the corporate office as a buyer and eventually became a senior book buyer. This was a rewarding career that she loved.

Along the way, Callie became a stay-at-home mom but couldn't give up working around books altogether. She volunteered to run the book fairs in her small farm town. At the same time, Callie started and ran A Child Oasis Company with the sole purpose of placing a small book library in the homes of all the needy children in the nearby city.

Powerful and thrilling final book of the Risking Love series

Michael by Callie Carmen is the perfect romance book to end the Risking Love series.

After reading the other novels in the series, I can honestly say that Michael did not disappoint. I was kept on my toes with the thrills of the love story between Olivia and Michael.

A survivor of relationship abuse, Olivia has put the past behind her and focuses on her future. She moves forward with her thriving career and meets the gorgeous VP Michael Evans. Falling in love doesn't come without obstacles - a cunning dragon lady who's ready to claw her way into Michael's life, and a crazy ex-boyfriend who raises one's anxiety levels through the roof. As I read every chapter, I cheered for Olivia because of her strength, tolerance, and refusal to be beaten by the bullying forces. I loved Michael for his loyalty, faithfulness, and his ability to see the forest through the trees in tough situations.

I loved this story - so many emotions raced around my heart when I read Michael.

An Epic Ending to an Epic Series...

FINALLY we get to read the series finale of ‘Risking Love’! WHEEEE!!! ‘Michael’ is a worthy ending to the saga.

Callie Carmen writes in the first-person tense, and alternates between the hero and the heroine’s respective points of view. It’s a very clever way of telling a story, because while first person creates more intimacy than third, it can also limit the scope of the story. Using dual narratives fleshes out different aspects of the tale, making it more complete than it would otherwise be.

Another earmark of Callie’s writing is her leading men. They are amazingly complex, and very life-like. Her heroines are also complex and engaging, but hey, let’s face it: ‘Risking Love’ was custom-tailored for the ladies. (I mean, seriously, check out the covers!) From the assertive Patrick to the reticent Anthony to the smart-yet-somewhat-clueless Joshua, Callie’s cast of male leads makes for great storytelling.

And now there’s Michael…

Michael’s a corporate exec. He’s smooth, suave, handsome, and possesses an uncanny ability to read the people around him. He’s also the perfect gentleman, with a courteously deferential way of treating women that’s very endearing. It’s obvious from the opening chapters that lovely Olivia is head-over-heels for him. There’s just one problem. Well, two, actually…

The first is Veronica, the conniving ‘dragon lady’. She’s cold, ambitious, and a rather daunting romantic rival.

The second is Braylon, Olivia’s stalker.

Those twin threads of suspense—the personal angst, combined with the element of danger—make ‘Michael’ an absolute page-turner. It’s a worthy ending to the series that began with the explosive ‘Patrick,, and I suspect that many readers will be sad that the ride has finally come to an end. I know I am.
But that means we get to look forward to whatever comes next!

For quite a while Olivia has been in love with her boss, Michael. However, Michael appears to be with the Dragon Lady, Veronica. Olivia knows that Michael and Veronica date and it’s obvious that the woman is a raving beauty. Why wouldn’t Michael be in love with her? Yeah, Michael is exceptionally nice to Liv. He’s easy to talk to and has helped her with personal problems as well as encouraged her career advancement, but Liv really thinks he’s the one who will get away. But… Will he?

Michael is a great final book for the Risking Love series! Both leading characters are sympathetic and worth rooting for and Ms. Carmen builds a first rate bit of suspense in the story with Olivia’s former boyfriend. The whole series is definitely worth reading. It’s nice to read the books in sequence, but since each is a standalone, pick them up in any order. The overlapping characters are explained well. Recommended!

I had been anticipating this book for a long time, as I read all of the others in the series. I knew this would be the last one, and I couldn't wait to see how the author wrapped things up. I was not disappointed!

Livie was such a likeable character, and I cried when I read about her past abuse. It was handled very well. As for Michael, he was a wonderfully protective guy who fit in with the rest of her friends and made me smile. His ex, aka the maneater, was a real piece of work. All I'm going to say on that topic is, "Ugh!"

Overall, this was a well written novel, and the author was able to evoke strong emotions from me. That is high praise, indeed. The ending was perfect and wrapped things up nicely. Well...almost. I do believe Damon is calling out for love. Perhaps a book in the near future? Yes, please!

Although Michael is part of the Risking Love series, like the others in the series, we can read it as a standalone. Olivia is a woman that had to deal with an abusive boyfriend from her past. And she handled him like a champ. Then there's the social climber, the dragon lady, that wants Olivia out of the picture. Throw in Olivia's handsome and kind boss Michael and you end up with the perfect mix of suspense and passion in this wonderful romantic suspense novel.

I have enjoyed every book in the Risking Love series, and was really looking forward to this one. Olivia is the last of the girls to get her man, and I wanted to see her finally find happiness. I wasn’t disappointed. What a finale! I think this is my favorite book in the series. Olivia is a heroine you immediately root for, brave, vulnerable, loving, and full of personality. I liked the fact that she is successful in her career and also has hobbies and interests of her own. She doesn’t spend her life waiting for a man to rescue her. Michael is a great hero, mature, protective and passionate. The story contains plenty of twists and turns and has not one, but two great villains. The dramatic ending will leave you breathless and very satisfied. I can’t wait to see what Callie Carmen writes next.
