Mickey and the Plow Horse Paperback – September 30, 2014
Mickey is our hero and at 12 years old he is already a bit of a social outcast. His parents seem like nice people but for some unknown reason they think sending Mickey to summer camp would do him good - what were they thinking!
The language and concepts in this book are accessible for many young readers. The characters will certainly endear themselves to children and I'm sure they will have many things in common with them too. I can highly recommend this book.
I loved vicariously living Mickey and his friends' experiences in camp and found myself wishing once again that I had been sent to camp as a child. Dreyfus' writing is compelling and easy to get lost in. His plot is superb, the kind of feel-good story that makes you want to stand up and cheer at the end, that deserves to be made into a film. Mickey and the Plow Horse demonstrates what dreams can be achieved if one dares, especially if there's a guiding force or two ready to help make the magic happen. It's most highly recommended. - 5- Star Awad READERS' FAVORITE by Jack Magnus
About the Author
At the age of 78 and 50 years practicing as a clinical psychologist, Dr. Edward Dreyfus has turned his attention to writing psychologically based novels, claiming that "age is on the calendar, youthfulness is a state of mind". MICKEY AND THE PLOW HORSE (a socially awkward, 12-year old asthmatic boy discovers he has a rare gift) and BUDDIES (four men, childhood friends, fall in lust with the same woman, and learn the truth about what it means to be a man) are currently available. The THE MIDNIGHT SHRINK, partially autobiographical, set in the context of a serial killer, depicts the journey of Dr. David Edminson as he discovers the truths about his childhood. All book royalties go to charity! Dr. Dreyfus has written a total of eight books, five nonfiction and three fiction. He is a licensed psychologist in California, a Certified Sex Therapist, and a Fellow of the American Psychological Association. All of his books are available on Amazon: edwardadreyfus.net

The book is set up for readers of all ages. Granted it was written for the younger group. I also really like how the words are spaced on the pages. It isn't jumbled up with small print like most books. I was able to easily see the words and move right through the book. I know this is going to appeal to my daughter as well. His writing is simplistic enough so that the younger readers will not have a hard time understanding the story. His style of writing is so amazing that I was able to visualize everyone and everything around "me" in the story. A good writing will make you feel like you feel like a part of the story and that is exactly how I felt reading this book.
The characters in this story are all enjoyable. I don't think there was a character that I hated. I do know that you will feel for Mickey and "laugh and cry" with him all the way through the book.
Like I stated before, I really enjoyed reading this story and think everyone should include it in their home or school library.
