If you're installing an aftermarket stereo, you should consider getting a by pass. Its NOT exactly legal, and if you're stupid, don't install this. But if you want and like things to work and aren't a darwin award recipient, then get the micro bypass so you don't have to take the parking brake off, put it on, then back off to access your stereo.
I purchased the alpine ilx-w650 from crutchfield for a 99 4Runner. I priced checked on amazon and amazon suggested these are the other things that other people bought, read about it, and ordered it. (I still suggest getting your stereo from crutchfield because CF will make you a wiring harness for the stereo to your car, its an additional service). If you know how to do this and want to, great, if you don't and want plug and play, spend the money and get the wiring harness.
Matt at MBP is the best there is. He walked me through everything, anything I didn't understand, he explained, he took the time to show me what I would need from home depot, from the electronics store, what tools/crimpers I would need etc. We sent pics back and forth and emailed, and had a phone call. No one has better customer service than this guy. I would buy anything from Matt because of his honesty, his patience, and his attitude for helping others.
With blue/white(MB) to blue/white(Stereo) and black(MB) to black(stereo) attached I played with the yellow/green.
1.Yellow/green(MB) + yellow/green(Stereo) and no handbrake cord, does nothing.
2.Yellow/green(MB) + yellow/green(Stereo) + Gray (handbrake) does nothing.
3.Normally settings will work if, yellow/green(Stereo) + Gray(handbrake) works only with handbrake activated.
But why is the Microbypass disabling it if it's attached to it in #2 above?
BUT when yellow/green(MB) is applied to #3 above when menu is activated, only during this time, the microbypass will work like is should and bypass weather handbrake is deactivated or not. When car is restarted, it goes back to not working again (see #2 above). Not sure if blue/white(MB) needs to attached to blue(stereo) remote instead like someone suggested because it's activating it too early?
Matt from MicroBypass goes out and beyond to help (looked up my vehicle and stereo harness and made sure it was installed correctly). Mine had a pimple bump on the microbypass, not sure if it came like that, most likely I might of burned it in the process of installation (my car had a factory amp and the wiring were a little different). Regardless, Matt had customly made one that will work with the setup I had. It came in today; installed according to instructions and worked perfectly. Hands down best service and support.

These days, it's easy to be binary by saying it either does or does not work, then move on. This is not so here. After initially installing the Bypass, I began having issues where the product would intermittently work. As typical today in a disposable culture, you're first instinct is that there's a problem with the product. Again, not so here because of the great efforts of the seller to work with me in problem determination - something I do as a living and should have had the mindset to be in when first installing the product. However, after a couple of email exchanges, some more research on my part regarding Nissan audio idiosyncrasies, and tremendous help from the seller, I can confidently say that the product is great and works better than imagined. It saved me having to further cut into parts of the car's native wiring harness and potentially impacting another vital system of the vehicle. This is my 7th car stereo installation since I started driving 34 years ago. It was my first installation in a vehicle in over 12 years. Some of the basics still are important: Connect to a solid chassis ground; close off ground loops wherever you can; perform your installation slowly and in phases. Thank you again for the great product and support!!!
Blk = ground
Blue/wh = Blue/wh
Yello/blue = Yellow/Blue
Funny that I can ride a motorcycle with no helmet in many states but adjusting a radio setting while driving is just too dangerous to be allowed. BTW I love the new head unit now but that's another review...
