Note: Induction motors such as air conditioners, refrigerators, freezers, microwave ovens, and pumps may have a start up surge of 3 to 7 times the continuous rating. Heat generating appliances such as hair dryers and water heaters will have high peak surges as well.
Example: If the microwave oven has peak surge which is 4 times the continuous wattage, the 1200 Watt continuous microwave ovens will have 4 x 1200 Watts = 4800 Watts peak surge. The recommended inverter to run 1200 Watt continuous and 4800 Watt peak surge microwave is 2500/5000 Watt inverter or larger. In general, induction motors require an initial surge of power to start up (“starting load” or “peak load”). Once started, the tool or appliance requires less power to continue to operate (“continuous load”)

The 3-stars is because the included seven gauge inverter cables are inadequate at (or near) 1000W loads and the positive cabling should be fused to protect from overheating or a fire could result--I tested my 900W coffee maker on this inverter and the included cables became too hot to touch for more than a second--I am going to upgrade to some heavier gauge inverter cables (thankfully my Baomain ANL-200A Electrical Protection ANL Fuse 200 Amp with fuse holder 1 Pack and Baomain ANL Fuse ANL-150 150 Amp 150A for Car Vehicles Audio System Sheet Gold Tone 2 Pack can be easily swapped to the new cables).
IMO, it would be a nice touch if the seller included a pre-fused inverter cable as some other inverters sold on Amazon come with. Newbie tip: adding a fuse to the inverter cable is not to protect the inverter, it is to protect your cables from overheating and causing a fire!
On a sailboat, when the engine is not running much of the time, you want to conserve power as much as possible. While this inverter works for the purpose described above, I discovered it draws ONE FULL AMP just sitting idle, with the refrigerator switched off.
If your needs involve managing the inverter, as in turning it on only when needed, it is not so bad. But to power passive appliances like refrigerators, this inverter is a bit inefficient.
For off-grid or RV use where, power efficiency is desirable, you may want a better inverter (probably more expensive).
