Top customer reviews
Looking at other reviews, I decided to take a chance on these since $12 is pretty low risk.
First off, there are several different brands of headphones for PC (and also Xbox 360) that have clearly been popped out of the same mold in a Chinese factory and are sold under multiple names and are made in different colors. eForCity is one, Everydaysource is another, and I have also seen DreamGEAR. This is one of those.
ALSO - the packaging for these phones do not say eForCity anywhere. There is an Amazon(?) barcode label with that name on it, but the printed packaging just has "Stereo PC headphone" and "For Digital" on it. The photo doesn't even show the boom mic, so they must use the same packaging for multiple products.
These will not compete with an expensive headphone. They are shallow on the ear and there's not a lot of pivot. That said, my boys took to them quickly and they like them. I asked if they are comfortable and the answer was, "they're not bad." We have some much more expensive headphones (a pair of Sennheisers and a Turtle Beach set) in the house, so they do have some frame of reference. My youngest (12) just said he really likes them and the way they balance sound between the game he plays and the person he's talking to. That may be a function of the software and not the headphones, but he's very pleased.
One surprise that I didn't see in any photos was something that I really like with headphones: braided cloth covering on the wire rather than rubber. They don't tangle and they seem more durable. That was a happy little discovery. I wonder if that is true for all of these, or if I just got lucky. The length of the cord is adequate, but not luxurious by any means. Long enough to plug into the back of a PC sitting on the floor next to the desk, but you can't lean very far away.
We'll see how well they hold up. If they break or die, I'll update this review. Fingers crossed!
Hardy, good design for something so cheap.
Had it for 10 months and it did not break, and the wire did not become exposed and frayed.
The metal microphone shaft is fantastic, protects all the wiring without sacrificing function.
Okay voice quality
Microphone had some slight buzzing in the background.
The faux leather ear pieces were uncomfortable.
- Made my ears sweat and itch within an hour of wear.
- Faux leather dried and cracked after a while. Made it even more uncomfortable to wear.
There is not much padding to the ear pieces.
- Padding is really stiff, does little to cradle the ear. Save yourself the even further discomfort and take out any ear piercings in the cartilage of your ear that you may have.
- Padding is thinner than it looks. The "padding" serves more as an irritating cover more than comfort.
After 10 months, it just died out. I could find no fault in the wiring.
