Knockoff

This is either a knockoff or a very old model, but either way not as pictured. The microplane pictured has a rubber handle, this one is made of hard, cheap plastic and the actual grater is aluminum so is doesn’t adhere to a magnetic knife block like the one I thought I was buying. Because this cheap material was used, the grates are ragged instead of sharp and shred your fingers with the slightest slip. To make matters worse, Amazon won't allow a return for the item for some reason.

One little flaw, however, prevents me from giving it five stars. When I used it to grate lime zest today, it accumulated on the underside of the zester, as many food items do. Never expecting a problem, I used my index finger to wipe it off into the bowl. YOWWWww! The sides of the zester, which curl around to the back, were not finished. One of them gave me a very nasty slice across the end knuckle of my index finger. The last brand of microplane zester was finished smoothly, so it never occurred to me that this might be a problem. In the future, I'll be sure to use a pastry brush or the tip of a dinner knife to dislodge the grated item. Lesson learned!

Great microplane zester, very sharp. Love the little rubberized "feet" on the bottom that eliminate the possibility of its scratching the surface upon which you rest it to grate. It makes fast work of hard cheeses and zests. We love our freshly grated Asiago over home made pasta, so this little beauty is often at the table.By ChefCat on September 23, 2017
