This thing exceeded my expectations in the first 10 seconds of use. Unlike another microscope I have (a little handheld deal), this magnifies clear down to 10x - typically when it says "micro" on it the thing wants to start at 60x or 100x. I read it in the product promo material and honestly didn't believe it'd go that low - figured it had to be a mistake. Between a legitimate 10x magnification, an absolutely phenomenal LED lighting package (that floods the item directly under the lens with white light), and an adjustable material-bench, I was able to get a crystal clear image of the otherwise scattered flecks of paint left on the IC in question. I believe the built-in lighting package helped immensely - I seriously get an enhanced image that's as clear as it would have been when the paint was fresh. The LCD display quality is unbelievable too. I expected a lot less for $99.99.
So when I say not a toy, I mean it's priced like "a low quality toy" but it works like "a great quality tool."
In the iffy bits: It's helpful to know that the PHOTO/VIDEO button is actually in the base, under the specimen platform. It may also be helpful to know that a microSD card is compatible with the "microTF" card slot. At first I thought my brand new SD card didn't fit, because it wouldn't go in at all, but then I found the thing shipped with an 8GB card in that slot. I'm not sure if this means mine was used or not, but the manual does say "not equipped with card" aka "sold separately" so I was pretty confused until I figured out something was blocking the slot. If you have a similar issue, just keep in mind that there may be something in there already.
Easy to use, no instruction needed, 7 year old can operate without problem, this is the biggest advantage vs a regular light microscope, which requires a lot of practice
good image quality, although WB can be better
comes with TF card, usb cable and HDMI cable, some reviews say it doesn't, the item description does not specify, but they are all included, nice
I like it that the stage can be adjusted to fit in different sized object
dislike:
no where near to 1000x, this is barely 100x, and with the extra 10x "digital zoom" you may get 1000x but that's just a zoom in with the same image, really should not claim 1000x, don't expect to see cells with it
stage is kind of flimsy and it moves a lot
auto white-balance can be improved, image looks white washed
Overall nice one, kids loved it

The on-board screen makes it incredibly easy to jump right into the use of it, without having to download any apps or jump through any hoops. The controls are straight forward and the quality of the screen isn't bad for the cost of it. If the quality isn't good enough, they do provide an HDMI cable with it so that you can use it on a larger screen.
They provide to test slides to get a feel for it right out of the box, along with a small storage for them (and more) to slide into. They do not provide any additional slides for your own use, but you can always snag some online I'm sure. You get the before-mentioned HDMI cable as well as a USB cable for charging it (which there is that too...it's wireless, which is great (have to hold the power button down until it fully comes on).
The quality of the images pretty much matches what you get on the screen. It isn't going to blow your mind, as that is what the really expensive alternative options are for, but it is going to provide enough to get you what you see on the screen.
Magnification isn't going to be what you get out of a professional microscope (of course). It's like a really good magnifying glass for tinier samples/items and a really good steady hand. Or like a really nice macro lens on a camera (zoom-wise). If you are looking for something that is going to give you a close-up on things like bacteria though, then you would absolutely want something professional over this.
We like this and feel that kids could have a lot of fun with this, as well as adults too (fun is fun!). Great for both education and recreation all the same.
