About the authors

My name is Bill English. I've spent over 30 years starting, growing, and managing businesses. I have a deep desire to know what the Bible has to say about owning and running a business. I know what it's like to be swimming in so much cash that it's difficult to know what to do with it all. I also know what it's like to wake up at night, in panic, knowing I can't meet payroll in a day or two. I understand what it takes to build a profitable business and the many ways an owner can unwittingly kill his business.
I write for Christians who own businesses and Christians who lead for-profit businesses but are not the owners. God has called me to a niche audience - that really isn't so niched. I estimate, in America alone, there are over 2M Christians who own businesses. If we could ask them, "Would you like to use your business for Jesus Christ?", I bet 95% would say, "Yes!" Then they would ask, "How do I do this?" My books and blogs are my attempts to answer that question.
As you can see from the numerous technical book on this page, I was pretty active in the SharePoint vertical for a number of years. But I changed careers in 2014 and focus now on turning unprofitable businesses into profitable ventures and writing all that I can learn from the Bible about being a business owner and leader.

There are certainly parts of the book were it goes into depth on topics but the major seemed to be more an overview than a deep dive. That certainly provided insight into the features of the different components yet it didn't quite show you how to get it running in a practical situation. Given the recent release of Windows Phone 7 the chapter on integration with Windows Phone 6.5 now seems a little dated. It would nice to see some focus being put on integration with non Microsoft platforms like Android and iOS, even if via third party apps.
This is certainly a book worthwhile having and would recommend it to those with intermediate skills in SharePoint and those looking to become more skilled with SharePoint server. I however feel it lacks a little of the depth I would have expected for an 'Administrator's companion'.
In summary, a worthwhile addition to your SharePoint library but if you are looking for real deep dive Administration material this is probably not the book for you.

Looks like most of it is cut and pasted from Microsoft Technet.
Take the Records Center for example - OK so we have a list of things we need to set up to get it running, so far so good. - is this expanded upon in a way which lets you understand what is needed? No. Just concepts, no examples and a load of questions which your "Adminstative Companion" is silent upon. We are even shown a page which Microsoft provides via the Records Center site with links to whats needed to be done to get the records center working. Is this expanded upon. No. But we are told we can go back after we have configured the Record Center and remove the page.
How about asking some prospective Sharepoint Administrators what they think of content like this before it is put into print?
We buy books like this in the hope that they will illuminate areas we are unclear about not bombard us with stuff we can readily find in help files or online.
