The package arrived on time, but instead of being in a box, it can in a sealed plastic bag, with bubble wrap around it, and in a large envelope. There was no Official Xbox 360 HDMI packaging by MicroSoft.
Since there was no official company packaging, I was ready to return the HDMI Cable, because I was not sure if it was Brand New, or used.
However, I decided to call a very good friend of mine on the phone for some advice. At the time, he worked in an Gaming/Entertainment Store, and he knows just about everything there is to know about Video Game & HD TV Audio-Video Set-ups.
Basically, he advised me not to bother sending the Xbox 360 HDMI Cable back to the store I ordered it from. Why? Because, he told me that as long as the HDMI Cable was new & not damaged, I should keep it and use it. He said that paying tons of money for HDMI cables was a waste of money, because it really makes no difference, as far as on-screen quality goes, when compared to more affordable HDMI cables, like the one I had just bought.
So, I kept and used the Xbox 360 HDMI Cable. Upon closer examination, it turned out to be a new Official MicroSoft Product, only is grey in color, and not black.
Of course, it would have been more convenient to have had the HDMI Cable, arrive in it's official packaging, so that I would have instantly known it was a brand new Official MicroSoft Xbox 360 Product.
The HDMI Cable has worked so far for me, in terms of playing Xbox 360 games, with no problems. Just note that the store you order it from (named Direct Distributor), may not send it to you, in it's Official Package, for whatever reason.
For some reason the xbox 360 has such tight fightings for connections that customers need to buy this $50.00 accessory just to hook up audio to non-hdmi amplifiers. If your television has HDMI and audio you may not need this accessory, unless your monitor does not have audio as in my case.
If you own an audio/video multi-channel audio/video receiver, you most likely would not need this accessory.
However, if you only have some small computer bookshelf speakers, you can run the HDMI to your monitor and use the analog RCA connectors via an adapter to your computer speakers for audio.
The HDMI allows the best picture possible and that is why I would use this cable instead of the analog component HD cables.
I do not think this product is worth the $50.00 price just because the XBOX 360 has such tight fitting connections. This should be a $25.00 item for simple audio out.
NOW, i will say this to you people. My component cable is able to send 1080p signal to my TV. I thought the differences would be noticable between 1080p component and HDMI. And honestly, not much of a difference at all.
I'm using a 42" Philips 42ta648bx 1080p w/ HDMI. HDMI SLIGHTLY has an advantage in terms of graphics, as it is slightly sharper.
BUT, hdmi makes a big difference on playing DVDs. HDMI allows DVDs to upscale to 1080i. Now that is a night and day difference. So instead of buying a upscaled DVD player, just visit this page from time to time for a good deal on the marketplace. dont buy it at its full price, not worth it.
Oh and as for the audio, only if u really need to hook up your home theater with this. Id still recommend to save the cash and just buy a new hdmi that has hdmi out.
A few side notes:
1: For those who don't know HDMI cables, this type of cable allows 1080p picture AND dolbi sound to be transmittied to your TV via ONE cable, very handy! HDMI also utilizes a data tranmit cable that allows your tv to balance the signal, meaning you get 1080p instead of the lower picture quality of 1080i.
1080p = industry best
1080i = 720p
720i = 480p
480i = standard tv signal
So keep in mind, 1080p and 1080i are NOT equal.
2: This pack also includes the hardware you need to run the HDMI cable AND your basic red & white sound cables to your surround sound system. This is a must for people who own an HD TV that does not have an audio out feature. This is because it allows your x-box audio to come through your TV speakers and your surround sound system simulatiously. (This also has an optical out feature if your surround sound system uses this instead of R&W.)
