I was excited to get this product. I had MS Money 2000, and later upgraded to MS money 2002 standard. I run my own small business and needed something that was easy to use, and that would not require transfering information from one program to another. My first problem with MS Money 2002 deluxe and busines, is that YOU MUST UN-INSTALL the previous software! That was a pain. Why couldn't it just update the other version??
The book is helpful, but is far to small, it leaves hanging on many areas.
Setting up accounts in this program is not easy, it is not like Quick Books at all! The talking voices are annoying, and the help file never gives you what you want. I spent an hour figuring out how to update the business information, so that the invoices would have that vital information. I tried searching for address, no luck, and then business address, no luck. Eventually I stumbled upon how to fix it, but I doubt I could get there again easily.
Please consider other options!

An upgrade to avoid

I've used Money since 1993, and have upgraded almost every year. This is the worst incarnation. My primary complaint is Money 2002's insistence that you secure the file with a Microsoft Passport in order to have the program automatically update your online transactions. In Money 2001, the update occurred each time you started the program, unless the feature was disabled. You can, of course, secure the file with your own choice of passwords, as before, but you must then request a download manually.
In addition, unless you disable another "feature" don't be surprised when you're admiring a new gadget on Amazon and the MoneyPane opens on the left side of your browser to tell you that--after Money has peered into your financial situation, he's decided that you can't afford what you're looking at. While this is a mild exaggeration, I don't care for ANY computer software I own to open itself up without my permission while I'm browsing the web. Microsoft claims that there's no security issues involved in this process......and if you believe that....
Pass this version by. If I could downgrade, I would.

Perfect for Small Business

Needing to upgrade to a Windows based accounting software for our small business, I purchased Peachtree...I HATED IT...their support was awful, even after purchasing extra support...they always told me my simple questions were not covered. So...in desperation, and not wanting to spend a lot of money, I tried MS Money Deluxe and Business 2002. Most of it was easy to figure out, but the big disadvantage was that there's NO help in the manual for the Business type of entries...I was ready to scream...then, I decided to call Microsoft support. They answered very quickly and took lots of time with me on the phone. They didn't make me feel stupid and told me exactly how to do my simple everyday, invoicing, billing etc. with their program. Now I LOVE IT...it shows me the info on the first page...it can do most anything I want to do, and if I have a question, I call Microsoft support and they're clear, concise and great to talk to.
As long as you're not shy about calling for support...I highly recommend this product. If you won't pick up the phone and ask a question...buy something else.

A very good package

... Coming from fairly recent versions of Quicken and Quickbooks (Quickbooks 6 and Quicken 2000), I found the Money suite to have many more useful features, most of which could easily be turned off or changed to fit your needs (something that a few of the other reviewer's here obviously didn't realize...). Given the feature pack, it's obvious that the Intuit software pieces would seem much more basic and easy to learn. And that they were. But after an hour of setting up my accounts and general preferences, I had no trouble finding my way around Money 2002 and accomplishing my everyday tasks. I like the interface, and the fact that it can be extensively customized to show as little or as much info as you want. I tend to like things simple on the surface, but allow for easy retrieval of detailed data. The Money 2002 package delivers here very well.
One gripe I always had about Quicken/Quickbooks, is that the 2 pieces of software couldn't talk to each other (has this changed in recent years?). Being a sole proprietor, sometimes you need to talk to your personal banking accounts from your business ones, like when you're taking personal draws from the owner's capital account (i.e. living off the money you make from your business). Now that I can buy a package that combines home and business finances, life will be a little easier. Transactions will be fewer in number, and the process of backing up and keeping track of the underlying data files will be simplified.
If you own a business larger than a sole proprietorship, you definitely want a more robust package like Quickbooks on a basic level, and something more professional on a more complicated level. MS Money isn't designed for or marketed towards full-fledged businesses.
If you're looking for a home or home/business finance package, you can't go wrong with either MS Money or the Quicken/Quickbooks offerings. They are both done extremely well. I wouldn't rule out Money, based on the negative slamming reviews you see here. I assure you that it's every bit as good (better?) as the Quicken software package. And when you consider that the Microsoft package costs ... less than buying Quicken + Quickbooks, it seems like a no-brainer.
I don't usually give 5-star reviews, but the Money suite seems to do everything I need it to, and very well. There's extensive customization potential, and the interface is very easy to understand, as well as attractive. I'm pretty impressed with it overall.
-And watch out for the anti-Microsoft reviews you read around here. They are usually written by people whose only experiences with Microsoft is Windows 95.... Things have changed, my friends. OK, enough preaching.

MS took a good thing and made it bad

Money 2000 was great; it was fast, easy to use, and worked well. 2002 must have been written by a different group: several features don't work like they're supposed to, the online banking 'feature' is horrible now -- it integrates unapproved transactions with your register, forcing you to search through your register to find unapproved transactions. In addition, the budgeting feature breaks, and the really cool cash-flow feature doesn't work -- it will only display "1999" and a zero balance, and won't let you go in to specify different dates.
It's too bad it's such a pain (...)to return software, or I would have done it.
