I have had my Surface for about three months now. It was the perfect solution for me and what I needed. I have an Outlook email and use OneDrive as my cloud backup and am able to sync everything very easily. I also like that I can set up separate logins for my kids on the Surface like on our PC, something I cannot do (or do not know how to do) on the iPad. Complete setup took very little time, maybe thirty minutes if that.
If you are use to Windows and want functions more like a PC, I would get the Surface over an iPad.
With that being said, it's a great machine for the price. If you don't use anything other than Microsoft products, definitely give this a try. Especially since it comes with the Office Suite.
Here's the fix:
"Once the battery drivers are uninstalled hold down the power button and take the power lead out. The device switches off. Do not release the power button, keep it held down for 30 seconds and then put the power lead back in - don't let go of the power button until "Surface" appears on the screen. For me, the above steps changed the message from "Battery not detected" to "Plugged in not charging". I was then told to repeat the above steps and the next time it powered up it started charging. "
I also reformatted the surface to factory conditions before I did this and it didn't fix the problem.
Ok, let me cut to the chase here:Don't buy a new Surface 2 or Surface RT. Microsoft is discontinuing them due to the type of chip they use. The "PRO" versions feature a different chip and, unlike RT and Surface 2, will get free full upgrades to Windows 10 sometime later this year.
If you do decide to purchase one, it is nice to have Windows Office 2013 on the device. But beyond Office, the selections of apps that will work on the Surface 2 is great in number, and in theory, but many of the most popular apps will no work including the Google stuff. You will also be stuck using Internet Explorer as your only browser choice which, for many of us who stopped using IE years ago, is kind of scary.
I'm hoping that with the limited upgrade the RT and Surface 2 versions will receive later this year that more apps will work on the device. Otherwise, I wouldn't pay over $150 for this nice hardware that is on it's way out.
