A couple things to note. First, when you're looking at this in the pictures, it looks like the way it sits might be kind of awkward, with the bottom of the keyboard/stand unit not sitting flush against the table surface. That's just not the case. When the keyboard is magnetically attached to the stand, it forms a nice little upward angle for the keyboard that makes it, if anything, more comfortable to type on. But you really don't notice it. More importantly, when the keyboard is used in my lap (as it is right now as I type this), it is very stable and comfortable, either in landscape or portrait mode. It's also great that there are two different angles that you can prop up the tablet in in the stand. This is helpful when you find yourself in more of an upright sitting position -- like on the train.
Another great feature is the stand, which you can pull away from the keyboard itself and use as a stand. In fact, I almost use this feature more than the keyboard, as it makes the iPad much easier to use when it's propped up in some way. However, using the stand by itself will necessitate turning off the keyboard (a simple button press), because opening the stand/keyboard unit turns on and connects the keyboard automatically. So if you're using the stand by itself, without the keyboard, you'll need to turn off the keyboard if you want the iPad to display the on-screen keyboard properly.
The keyboard and stand are built very solidy, and connect strongly via magnets. They close together into a compact package. I've found that both my iPad and the keyboard fit well together in the Amazon Basic 10" tablet sleeve. This way I've always got both with me, but I only have to use the keyboard and/or stand when I want to. Most of the time, I hold the iPad in my hand as Johy Ive intended. But when I need to get some work done (or need to write a review like this, as I'm currently writing it using this keyboard on my lap), this beaty from Microsoft really gets the job done.
1) slot to set the iPad in, in case you don't have a case with a kickstand
2) connects very easily via bluetooth
3) works well with MS Office for iPad, as well as web apps
1) some input lag
2) if you have your iPad in a case, the slot won't work out well unless the case is very slim
I have my iPad in a slim "smart" case, so it worked out okay. The input lag doesn't bother me much, since I only use it for word documents mostly. This would be perfect for someone who wants to use their iPad for school or work so they don't have to buy a laptop - I got this for around $35 where buying a laptop (even a chromebook) would have been several hundred.
Another great thing is that you can place the tablet in portrait (vertically) and supports it. I use it with my Surface 3 and it works great. I also use it with my Surface Pro 2 though it is a bit awkward since the SP2 is too thick to fit in the slot (and I have to use the SP2 kickstand in conjunction).
It supports up to 3 connections. Unfortunately, you can't assign them any way you like. The Android spot is only for Android. The iOS is only for iOS. So I have multiple Surface machines and a work PC. I was hoping to assign each spot to a different Windows machine and just switch back and forth. No dice.
I love the soft material that covers the top of the keyboard. I wish the whole keyboard was like that instead of the typical hard ABS plastic.
I've had great experience with Logitech keyboards, and that's what I replaced this with.
