I had three choices. Digital download, CD or USB Flash Drive. The Flash Drive was the most expensive option but I wanted a real Win10 copy in case I ever had to reinstall it. But here is the real value of using a USB Flash Drive: 10 minutes total elapsed time from powering on the computer with the drive placed in a USB 3.0 slot, formatting a new Samsung 250 GB SSD drive to signing in to Windows 10. That's it. 10 minutes. Found all my hardware. Installed all needed drivers. Found my internet connection. Updated itself. Signed in. I just sat there, astonished. So the next week I did the same for my wife's computer. New Win10 USB Flash drive, new 1GB WD HDD, slightly slower CPU (her's an Intel I3-6100 and mine was an Intel I5-6500). Took 14 minutes. And again no problems. These were both new installs on all new equipment. As for Windows 10 itself, I like it more than Windows 7. Maybe just 10% more but more all the same.

Useless. Media (USB drive) was corrupted. Amazon----note 25% negative reviews- product has serious quality control issues.

Using included product key I went to Microsoft website and downloaded a copy of the OS, and using their media creation tool was able to make my own bootable USB stick, which loaded effortlessly onto my system.

W10 Home flash drive

Simple to setup, Home edition is sufficient for most users. Comes on a nice USB 3.0 flash drive, which if you want can wipe and use for storage. The W10 install media can be created through the 'W10 Creation Tool', available to download on the Microsoft site

As I write, the software download and USB are the same price, so unless you're in a rush, the USB is the better deal. Get it, wipe it, and if you need you can use your old 4gb USB 2.0 and the Windows Creation Tool

This is a retail copy so you can transfer it to a new computer (which deactivates the old). If you plan on upgrading hardware like motherboard, this will be necessary. You can't do this with OEM copies, which can be found cheaply online. DONT LOSE THE PRODUCT KEY!

Windows 10 was a bit of a headache at first. Updating it with it's new auto updater seemed to take a while, and I had to go in deep into the services menus to disable certain telemetry and tracking services, as well as some features which eat up resources. It's not as friendly as Windows 7, but it has all the compatibility for the latest hardware and those killer apps we all like so much. It has some improvements over Windows 7, but 7 is a lot easier to navigate, and allowed for much more user control, and certainly more familiar over its 10 counterpart. I'm going to give Windows 10 the chance it deserves finally, now that I have most of the creepy stuff deactivated.

Microsoft has had ample time to make improvements from user feedback, and I have also posted some feedback through their feedback menu. There is sadly no alternative I know of to do system searching while having Cortana deactivated, but I hope Microsoft will provide a solution for those of us who would like more control over the Cortana system, which comes off as a glorified spamware, nagware and spyware in one, than an actual local system search utility. I still haven't figured out how to make it stop searching bing for things when I make a search through the taskbar. As different as it's trying to be, it's limitations hold it back a bit. With more options, rather than restrained options, I think this system could be made into a better system than the older but very functional windows 7 search utility in the classic taskbar.

You probably already know of, or have heard of, how Microsoft does "things" to their operating systems. The only change here is that there is more of it. Looks, generally, like Win 8.x, but with new additions and some new restrictions. As is typical, this will take some getting used to. Apple is the same way, but possibly more so. I haven't seen anything in Win10 (so far) that I find I need, and probably should have stayed with Win8.1, but here I am. It's probably better for gaming and such, but that's a waste of time, for me, as I have better things to do. I had heard that Win10 has better 3D printing capability and/or interaction, but I haven't seen evidence of that. I have found that I'm having more failures with my graphics locking up and causing the need to re-boot more often than in Win8.1, and I have the latest drivers for my video card. This happened only very, very rarely in Wn8.1 so I can only hope that new drivers come out for my video card or Win10 has an update that takes care of the problem. In any case, it doesn't happen all that often.

The seller is NOT Microsoft and when I got my copy of Windows 10 it installed fine and I had no problems until I activated my key. The key is NOT a legal key and the seller seems to be scamming people here by selling DUPLICATE KEYS! I really recommend that people stay away from this product and purchase directly from Mircosoft online. I am confused that Amazon has still allowed this product to be sold with all the people complaining. I do thank Amazon because I was allowed to return the product with no hassle.

Very cheap way to get Windows 10

Product Key to activate windows 10 installation. Installation software is downloaded from Microsoft website to a USB memory stick (or can be burned to a DVD). Instructions imply that you can install over XP (without losing programs or data), but you can't. You have to wipe the disk first and do a fresh install. Having done this, the Product Key is used to activate the new installation. A very cheap way of getting Windows 10. Bought mine from Think-Digital. First key was already used but I think this was a genuine mistake by the seller. They quickly e-mailed me another, which worked OK. Beware if you have old peripherals such as wifi card or dongle, or even printer - there may be no Win10 driver for it.
