This book was good for my class, but other than that I don't think I would have gotten it. You won't learn anything insanely useful from this, as it appears to be half informational and half Microsoft bragging/selling it's features. The activities are good during each chapter, just make sure you have access to either virtual machines or many computers, as you have to install multiple versions of server and possibly even a client.

This book is great at explaining the intricacies of Windows Server 2008 in some detail, but you will encounter the occasional error in the text, be it misspelling or conflicting information. Just do some research online to find any answers. Another drawback to this dated material is it's constant references to Vista as it was written before Windows 7.

Chapters and material are fairly straight forward and easy to understand. The labs in the book are well laid out and self-explanatory. They are great to use with a virtual server setup. Used this book along with Transcender practice exams to pass the 70-291 exam.

The text itself isn't bad, however, I feel that some activities didn't have enough instruction and left me stuck for some time. It didn't help that the teacher I had barely spoke English, but I felt that details were left out and as a intro student to this sort of thing I couldn't completely follow with this book alone.

I have not used the CD's in the back, however, learning through this book in class. Complete with visual aids, screenshots, and how to's. Have not noticed any invalid information as of yet.

We've been using this book at the American College of Technology and it has been a great resource. Also there are lots of hands-on exercises in each chapter to ensure you have a sound understanding of the topics as you progress. Wouldn't be caught without it. Great book for the certification exam as well. Easy reading makes it a plus.

I had to buy this for a class. Saved 150.00 getting it from Amazon. But, this isn't the best book out there for the subject matter. This doesn't qualify as a 'keeper' for a future reference on the shelf. You should shop for something else.
