The keys are comfortable. The setup is easy. What I meant by the headline is that this particular and official model of the 360 Chatpad is actually of use with a gaming computer like of Alienware brand at the comfort of your couch.

All you need to make it work on your Microsoft Office Word as much as it would be in an Xbox game is the Controller Companion app which is on Steam. That is what I meant by $3.

1. Go to the Steam store.
2. Click on Controller Companion and buy it.
3. Open and install the app.
4. Go to the bottom right corner of your screen and look up for Controller Companion. Click on that and click "Settings."
5. Click the "Advanced" tab and you should see the 360 Chatpad driver. Follow the instructions to do it.
Note of caution: Make sure you buy this addon to the controller, not the cheap knock-off ones. They will not work with your Windows.

I was about to return my Chatpad after I tried it with two different Xbox controllers and it didn't seem to work. Once I got it connected properly, it worked fine. It has to be aligned just right, and snapped firmly into place with a surprising amount of force.

At first I was sure it was installed properly, but it wasn't. Looking at the controller from the back, I could see that one side of the Chatpad was aligned flush with the controller but there was still a small gap on the other side. If it's aligned properly and snapped into place, the keyboard should light up when any key is pressed.

I don't use chat, but I wanted to be able to enter searches more easily. The keyboard works fine with the Amazon Prime, Netflix and YouTube apps as well as all of the native Xbox search/configuration screens. It is small, almost like a Blackberry keyboard, but it's a lot better than stick-and-click using the controller.

It's unobtrusive and makes life easier. What's not to love?

If you want to use this with Windows it's possible but has quite the learning curve. If you're feeling adventurous there are 2 third-party drivers available to get it working. Just google Xbox 360 Wireless Chatpad for wireless controllers or Chatpad Super Driver for wired controllers. Then grab the xinput emulator Xboxce and a button mapper like Xpadder to smooth out some of the glitches. If you figure out how to make all that for you, you'll have a great little keyboard for a HTPC/Steambox. It was a nightmare to setup but definitely worth it. I just wish Microsoft was less lazy and added Windows support themselves.

As advertised, a genuine(as far as I can tell) black 360 chat pad. It works and HAS backlit keys. I am using it on my pc in concert with my wired xbox controller. It take a bit of setup set aside a few hours not including research(I can link the process if anyone is interested. Full setup only works with WIRED xbox controller as far as I know as of this date) but in the end you can fully use the xbox controller as a gaming controller and mouse(in and out of games) and use the chatpad as a full keyboard. For this review I am using my controller setup to type this review(as well as browse around the web) without a traditional keyboard or mouse and is pretty comfortable if you are used to xbox 360 controllers anyway.

Inputting text by scrolling through letters one at a time with a cursor is horrible! Don't do it!

This little gadget is a great addition to my X-Box 360 remote. I don't use chat, but I do have X-Box Live and a couple of streaming TV accounts. The ability to search for games, TV shows, movies etc. using a QWERTY keyboard makes this keyboard very worthwhile.

This keyboard snaps on to your remote between the handles. You can remove it, but attachment requires quite a bit of force; I have two remotes so one of them has the keyboard on full time. It adds 2.7oz (76g) weight, but the remote is still easy to hold and use. The keyboard runs off the remote's batteries, but I haven't noticed any difference in battery life.

Recommended if you use your X-Box for more than just games.

Bought this for my little brother for Christmas, I tried it out on his controller before I wrapped it. Super easy to use and does have a plug on it so he can plug his headphones into the actual keyboard to use both at the same time! Love the fact that it lights up so it's great for night time use! However it is a little tricky to get the keyboard to fully snap onto the controller for use

If you are a competitive gamer, a Pro, in the Bigs, yep, this might feel or be a bit awkward on your controller at first. If you text or talk Live, you might just love this Chat Pad with headset on your Wireless Handset. Read the directions, these do need a little nudge to click into place, and there you go....gaming and texting. Enjoy.

These are great. Do not hesitate to buy. Just be sure to use enough force to click them into place. They fit perfectly and do not interfere with game play. No issues at all. Takes all the frustration out of sign ins and Netflix searches.

You can even buy a USB xbox to PC wireless adapter, download special third party drivers, and then use your Xbox controller with your Windows PC. Makes a great HTPC mouse/keyboard combo. I love it!
