Lots of features designed for road warriors

Do you travel regularly? A road warrior and technology fiend? Then, like me, you've probably been searching for the best travel mouse for your laptop.

When researching a great travel mouse, I wanted several things: the mouse needed to be compact and light, yet comfortable in my hand. It needed to be power-efficient, yet responsive. And, of course, it needs to look good.

If that's what you look for in your computer mice, look no further than the Microsoft Arc Mouse.

The Microsoft Arc Mouse features an innovative design that solves several common travel mouse problems at once. The back half of the mouse folds out! When in use, the mouse is large enough to be comfortable in hand. When not in use, it folds to be the same size as those tiny travel mice that you can pinch between your fingers (and give you cramps to use). The only drawback of the folding design is that it feels a bit flimsier than a non-folding mouse.

The Arc Mouse lasts 6 months off two AAA batteries, which are easy to replace via the bottom of the mouse. The transmitter magnetically attaches to the inside flap. The mouse automatically turns on and off when opened and closed. Besides the standard left+right click and scroll wheel, this little travel mouse also includes a back button that makes web browsing significantly easier.

At $30, I found the Arc Mouse to be price-competitive with other travel mice options. While more expensive options available, I found myself satisfied with the Arc Mouse, and happy that I saved the additional money. Compared to cheaper mice, I found the Microsoft Arc Mouse to be significantly more ergonomic and compact, with it's unique folding design.

Overall, I rate the Arc Mouse as a Definite Buy

Fairly Good Out-of-the-Box (TM) Experience

Overall, I like this mouse. It complements fashionable computers without being overpriced, so I don't think it's a PowerPoint marketing let-down.

PROS:

+ Compact - Sensitivity is adjustable from a default of airline tray table to average workspace.

+ Styln - Included pouch is like a large coin purse. It's magnetically closing with a swede-like finish.

NEITHER:

~ Software - **Not included**. Quick download for all platforms.

CONS:

- Gianormous transceiver - Can pickup satellite TV with this thing. 3/4" (20 mm) beyond the USB slot. I want to have to pry the the thing out and nearly lose it in the laundry like an iPod Shuffle. :) And they better be universal these days or fix Bluetooth.

- Underside construction - Battery door could've been a bit better but YGWYPF.

- Slightly unergonomic - Thumb and pinky might get a little tired, but that's the price you pay. C'est la vie.

Right in a lot of ways

I bought this mouse as a trial to see if I might like to use it for corporate replacements when mice fail. Answer: Yes. And I've sampled just about every mouse that Microsoft has produced.

The mouse feels full sized when opened, but takes little space when folded up. It uses the tiny usb transciever with no wire or "pod" extending from the part that plugs into the computer. No direct line of sight necessary.

The scroll seems good, not quite as high quality as the Explorer 2 wireless, but the clicking is phenomenal. The back button is good. The only missing feature is a forward button, though rarely used, is noticeably missing.

The fit and finish of this mouse is superior. The build quality seems very high. Possibly the best mouse Microsoft has made, from an overall perspective.

Ergonomics seem very good with this mouse. It took me no adjustment time going from an Intellimouse Explorer 2.0 to this mouse. It takes only 2 AAA batteries for which Microsoft says should last 6 months.

Best feature: The mousing seems incredibly precise and high resolution. It is very good at navigating very fine movements.

Edit in, a few weeks later: I bought two of these and while I'm still very happy with both of them, the scroll wheel stopped working on the red one. It spins, but there's no clicking and the computer doesn't register that it is scrolling. Amazon is replacing, and since the other one is fine I'm hoping this is an abnormality.

I LOVE this Arc Mouse

I LOVE this Arc Mouse! I first used it at another job I had and unfortunately since the company bought it, I had to leave it there when I left. I have since purchased two of these for my home computer and also for my work laptop. There are four reasons why I love this mouse: 1) Because of the small compactness of it yet it fills your hand like a full size mouse; 2) Because of the folding capability. When I am giving a presentation I can walk about the room advancing the PowerPoint slides, to prevent me from accidently advancing forward in PowerPoint, I can fold the mouse up which turns it off, then unfold it when I want to advance again; 3) The radius, I have been up to 30' from the pc/laptop and been able to advance my PowerPoint slides or use the features listed in item 4; 4) Within the radius of the room I can actually use the mouse on any surface to minimize, maximize, scroll, and switch between windows. I do not need to walk back up to the keyboard at the front of the room. I would highly recommend the Microsoft Arc Mouse!

Best Wireless Mouse!

Microsoft's Arc Mouse is one of the most portable, usable, comfortable wireless mice. Great battery life. Very easy to use. I first had one for work and have used it for over 5 years now. I purchased this one so I can view Amazon Prime shows, and pause/volume/play from the comfort of my recliner. Highly recommended. I hope they keep making them. If I hear they are discontinued, I'll most likely purchase a backup.
