I also loved, loved this kettle until about 10 minutes ago when I walked into my kitchen and saw a fire in my microwave!!! I have used this product for about 6 months and have taken care to only hand wash. I would love to have a replacement that won't go up in flames.

Within 3-4 minutes 2 cups of water is boiling and ready! The whistle feature is wonderful as I am one to put something in the microwave and forget it. I can easily here the whistle two rooms away. Also, love to see my dogs tilt their head when it starts whistling!

I have used this kettle for many years (I think at least 12) with no issues and I love it. Water boils in 3-4 minutes and the whistle blows to let me know. Handle is cool to the touch. I just have to be careful lifting the lid because the steam from the boiling water can scald if you are not quick. The measurements on the side make it easy to boil what I need for convenience foods that call for certain amounts of boiling water. In addition to using it at home, I have taken it with me on vacation, using in-room microwaves to boil water for tea or instant oatmeal. The kettle is a compact size for traveling.

After years of frequent use, the lid has formed a crack (maybe because sometimes I use it twice in a row, not giving it a chance to cool down.) It still works but I figure I should replace it. I am very sad that it is no longer available and that others are reporting fires. I hope it is not the case that they decided to cut cost, produced an inferior and hazardous product, and then ended up pulling it out of production altogether. I have seen too many good products ruined by unnecessary cost cutting.

I have had this kettle for at least 8 yrs. I have had no incidents! The cause of referred problems are due to misuse of this kettle, such as,not filling the cup so that the red tongue is submerged. Kettle should not be removed from microwave while bubbling, and, bubbling water should not be poured til settled. Prolonged boiling lowers the water level beneath the red tongue. The rubber lining at the whistler needs to be in place. My kettle is still useable, but the mineral deposits build up faster. I also want to give a kettle as a gift! I hope this summary will encourage the return of the kettle; or, at least, a revised, updated kettle to be made!

Got this kettle as a wedding gift. I used it and hand washed it as directed. LOVED using it for teas and other quick hot water drinks and meals. Today put it in the microwave and POP! BURNT smell and SMOKE everywhere. Thank goodness my microwave didn't catch fire or anything else. Love the idea but not worth the potential fire hazard.

Water can get superheated when boiled in the microwave, causing it to literally explode. This kettle is the best little invention as it prevents the superheating of the water by disrupting it with the red extended stick that dips into the water during heating. I've never had this kettle superheat! I used to use Pyrex glass cups to boil water and sometimes I'd have it explode in the microwave -- water everywhere. This kettle also whistles so you know when the water's done. One cup of water boils in just under 3 minutes in my 1400 watt microwave. I bought mine at Target.

It's faster than a regular teakettle but you need to make sure the lid is on properly for it to whistle. The water is at full boil before it whistles, which is good if you're a fanatic about your tea!
