I had the opportunity to attend a leadership seminar in 2009 where Jeff was one of the facilitators. It took a couple of hours of getting into the meat of the course before I realized I was involved in something special. And it would take a few days after the conclusion of the course to understand that Jeff was no ordinary speaker. He instantly became a friend, a mentor and a brother. His passion is not over-the-top like a carnival sideshow hawking the latest snake oil cure. But like a river carving a path through a stone forest, Jeff constantly reminds you that the only acceptable answer to "when" is "today".
Every day he reminds us to "rethink" ourselves. And by every day I mean every day since March 2009 when he began putting his thoughts into writing a blog. What started off as a short 100-day challenge has now grown into a movement that can't be stopped. It's who he is. It's what he does. It's how he lives. . . encouraging us to be the best "us" we can be.
The truths are simple. He takes common sense and helps you see the value in making it common practice in all phases of our lives. Mind, body, spirit, money, hq.
There are a lot of "how-to" books out there to tell people how to "fix" a circumstance. The shelves are full of them - go look at any bookstore. But this isn't a book on how to "fix" a circumstance...it isn't a band-aid approach to life. This is a change in mindset and "heartset." Jeff encourages you to rethink, reprioritize, and recommit to not just survive in your life, but to THRIVE in your life while making moments count!
Knowing Jeff since 2009 primarily through his blogs and as his friend, I know he speaks encouragement not because it is what people want to hear, but it is what he has experienced in his own life. He has learned to take the phrase "carpe diem" to heart, and that is what you will get from Jeff in this book.
This is a must-have book, whether you need a reminder, some reinforcement, or you need to reinvent your passion for life!
The blog family, of the same name (midlifecelebration.com), has the same overarching themes of accountability, motivation and support in the five realms - mind, body, spirit, money and managing it all. Jeff's blogs are a great place to get a daily dose of determination. But this book just puts it all in one place and pulls you along on a journey that can absolutely be a recurring weekly trip. I've read it once and intend to read it again, countless times.
Jeff does not try to give examples that one may not relate to. He tells a quick story, to clarify a point. But, he then applies his point in just such a way that you know that you've experienced similar feelings and will be able to confront and overcome any obstacles that imposed said feelings. You may feel convicted. But you won't feel beat down. On the contrary, you will feel lifted up and encouraged.
I will absolutely pick this up many times to get that literary hug, to feel that supportive push. The lessons to not degrade. The points remain relevant. And it's such an easy read that there will not be a second thought about picking it up.
I highly recommend jeff noel's Mid Life Celebration!
Mid Life Celebration is a book that speaks to those of any religion, or of none at all; it is for everyone. It is a true meal for the soul, served in bite-sized portions that are easy to digest. The book’s size makes it easy to tuck into a purse or glove box, and would be perfect to read during a commute, in a waiting room, or even as a way to open a group discussion. Five minutes of reading will inspire hours of introspection. In fact, each chapter is a thought in itself, to be savored and contemplated.
Jeff Noel asks us to ask ourselves the question, “Am I an example or a warning?” Definite food for thought.
