Now, what I don’t like. One person cannot put this cage together with ease. My husband and I worked on it for so long we had to take a break to get away from it. The cage is pretty sturdy but we used zip ties for extra strength. Putting on the wheels was task provoking because you need small fingers to put the screws and nuts in place. It is exasperating to say the least. Maybe my patience is thinner than it used to be but both of us were trying to finish the job without saying words that could make a few people blush. We finally got the job done but I think if someone is hoping this will be an easy project they may find out otherwise. I do believe it will be worth it but there was a fair amount of aggravation before we could put our cat in it.
When it was ready we decided to put her favorite blanket inside so she would be more comfortable with something she was familiar with. She looked the cage over and eventually laid down on her blanket. Overall, I think this product is going to keep our cat better protected on our deck while she gets some sunshine and fresh air with one of us close by. This gives us both peace of mind.

There are little "D" shaped hooks at the corners that hold the sides together. At first, I figured they'll hook on to just wherever they seemed to match up on the opposite panel, but this won't work. Unless it's in the right place, the cage will fall apart. I believe this is why some reviewers said the cage would just fall apart. Here is the right place: the "D" shaped hooks go directly UNDER a horizontal wire. That latches them in, and makes the cage quite sturdy even without cable ties. I used cable ties to loosely hold things together until I latched them in at the right place, then I removed the cable ties (I have the kind with a release, so they're reusable). If I had someone helping me, I probably wouldn't need cable ties at all.
The platforms seem sturdy. They support the weight of my 10-lb cat with no problems, but I may add some cable ties there later, just for peace of mind.
How did the cats like it? My adventurous cat, Tarzan, couldn't wait for me to finish putting it together. I had to keep the doors closed so he wouldn't go in there until I was done. Then, when I finished, I opened the doors and he went right in and played and played. It took him a little while to figure out how to jump from platform to platform, but he got it. He really liked the bed that came with it. My lazy scardey-cat, Jayne, ran away and hid once the cage fell apart when I first tried to put it together (it made a loud noise). After I was done, she came out timidly, got close enough to sniff it, and then ran away. Later, I put her in the bottom of the cage and petted her, and she was okay for about 30 seconds before she wanted out. It's going to be a process with her. She won't even use a new bed for months. She won't even touch a new bed for months. She doesn't like new things. Whenever she hears the metal sound of me opening or closing the doors, she runs away. She is a very atypical cat, though. Don't pay attention to her. My other cat loves it, and goes in there voluntarily.
Overall, Pluses:
*Great value for the money
*Large size
*Does assemble without zip ties
*Feels sturdy (if assembled the correct way)
*Doors latch securely, but simple enough for a human to open and close
*Doors also on the top level, so gives easy access to upper platforms
*Double doors are also very wide, taking up almost a whole side. Or, you can open only one at a time.
*Bed is very nice. Velcros to the platform, easy for a human to remove
*Slide-out tray at the bottom for easy cleaning
*Adjustable platforms, so you can raise or lower them
*Folds flat for storage or travel. All the side panels are permanently connected to the bottom, so you don't have to figure out which panel is the side, which is the top, etc. Everything is connected. You just have to connect the corners to assemble.
*Additional zip-ties may be used for added sturdiness and/or peace of mind, especially at the top and on the platforms
Minuses:
*Directions it came with are pretty much useless. It doesn't tell you how to properly put it together. Now that I look again, there IS a picture of where the "D" shaped clip is supposed to go, but it wasn't made clear at first how important the location of the clip is, in relation to the horizontal wires. A person would assume that clip could go anywhere on the corner. The directions also tell you to add the wheels pretty much last, although I wish I had put the wheels on first as the cage is huge!
*Might be difficult for one person to put together, unless using zip-ties to temporarily hold the panels together
*The top still doesn't seem to fit 100% perfectly, but 90% is close enough for me. I feel fine leaving the top panel with no zip ties, but another owner may want to put a couple zip ties up there just in case.
*A couple latches are just hanging around, and I'm not sure what they're supposed to be used for yet. The directions don't mention them. (They're the small latches at the bottom of the short sides, if anyone else can leave me a comment and let me know what those are for.)
*One door latch is stuck. I'll have to get some pliers and fix that. I'm sure this is just a fluke, and should be an easy fix.
*I wish the platforms were a few inches wider, but my cat seems to like it fine the way it is
Putting the casters on was a nightmare. Trying to align the 3 parts of the caster assembly the thread a screw which is barely long enough with a flat washer a lock washer and a nut was impossible even after getting the wife to hold the caster assembly in place. Once again the trusty zipties came out and now each caster assembly is held in place with 2 zipties.
Then once it was all together we found that the wife does not have enough strength in her hands to override the spring pressure on the door locks so I gave her a pair of bungee cords to use instead. She bruised her thumb trying to push the door handle to unlatch one of the doors this morning
To sum it up this is a very poor design
I would not recommend this crate even if it is to remain in one area. For traveling with a pet and having to assemble and disassemble plan for an extra hour or so for two people to do the assembly

I just wish the attachable cat rug came for each ledge, instead of just one.
Reviewed in Canada on July 13, 2023
I just wish the attachable cat rug came for each ledge, instead of just one.
My current fosters are a mother and her 8 kittens and I've taken the playpen out on the patio so they can safely experience the warm sun, the scents, sounds and breezes - and go nuts watching the birds and the bees! It's also very handy to pop them all in when I want to vacuum or open the window in the room to air it out thoroughly.
The design has been well thought out. Accessing any area, top or bottom, is simple as there are 4 doors - 2 up and 2 down, which are very secure with their extra little catches to hold everything in place. The tray at the bottom of the playpen locks into place too, but slides out very easily for cleaning.
There are 2 things I would comment on:
1: It's not easy for little kittens to get up from the floor to any of the shelves, so I made a couple of ramps from old, narrow wooden shelves for them to use. However, they were big enough by about 8 or 9 weeks old to climb up the bars to the shelves anyway, so the issue was very short-lived. I could also have put a small cat tree or piece of driftwood in the playpen instead of making the ramps, which would be a nice thing to have in there in any case.
2: The shelves are very slippery, and that's a bit of a falling hazard for kittens when they're jumping from one shelf to another. It would be nice to have some kind of non slip surface, or perhaps a couple of removable, washable covers in addition to the one soft padded one that's provided. Again, creating something isn't difficult to do; it would just be nice not to have to.
Interestingly, I will often find that the little ones choose to sleep in the playpen rather than anywhere else in the room - I let them have access to it at all times. I guess it's their own special safe place, and mama's sanctuary is the top shelf with the squishy pillow that's provided!
All in all, I'm delighted with the playpen and would like to get another one at some point to make doubling up on fosters during the really busy times much easier. The second playpen could easily become a part of the balcony or patio furnishings, or just be folded up and stored away very neatly when not in use.
Definitely a good buy for me, and for anyone who wants to give their indoor kitties some outdoor time, or keep them safe and sound while doors and windows are open. I'll be using the playpen later on when family and friends are over for a barbecue. That way it'll be a stress free night with no worries about escapees when people are rushing in to use the bathroom!
After the first 5 months we progressed to just locking her in at night time or for very long periods when I was out the house. The doors are huge which meant that cleaning this was very easy and accessible - which was important as this cat would still periodically spray outside of her litterbox on her bed/etc. while inside the cage from time to time.
Basically, this cage helped us overcome a very dark period in this cat's life so for that I'm thankful. For my needs I would buy at full price, but if you are just looking for a patio cage to get your cats some fresh air I would definitely wait for a sale.
It moves & makes jiggling noises when the inhabitant moves from level to level, because the quality is not amazing. I added zip ties to the corners for my sanity, though the cage likely would have been fine without them. They made building it a lot easier anyway. My cat so far seems to like the bed that came with it. I also sewed a cage cover and she seems to like it a lot more now that it offers privacy.
I put two of the levels together & used zip ties to secure the second level & keep it sturdy, so now I have a small level at the top with the bed on it, and a much larger level for the water bowl & it is also where I feed her. The bottom is big enough that I have a NVR Miss litter box & an incline cardboard scratcher there.
I bought this cage for a cat with FIC who sprays & is peeing/pooping everywhere. I had to hang a shower curtain on the cage as she was still spraying through the cage bars onto the wall/nearby cabinet etc. so it was easier to clean, as well as clipping puppy pads on the inside. Having a cage makes it easier to set up this kind thing to keep the mess contained.
Hopefully the cage will help us while we try out a new behavioural medication, as I am really, really sick of cat pee all over the place.
After getting my husband to release a hook that had been pushed out of place during shipping (making it impossible to separate the layers of wire grid and pull them upright) I put it together by myself in about an hour. I found the wheels tricky to attach so I used scotch tape to hold the bolts and the two plates in place over the grid while I fastened the nuts. I had to use pliers and a screwdriver together, to get the nuts tight enough. I'd suggest adding this advice in the instructions.
It was tricky to raise the pieces and hold them in place while I hooked everything together and the advice about tie wraps/twist ties was invaluable: so THANK YOU for the person who provided that.
I have raised this kitten since it was just hours old (feral, left by the mother, found under a wheelchair ramp at a hospital). At about 3 and a half weeks, I put her in the bottom of the enclosure in a cat carrier with the door open so I could supervise her activity and still close the door when I couldn't be there. After about ten days, she was big enough that I removed the carrier. The gap around the bottom above the tray is fairly large when dealing with a tiny kitten, so I rolled towels and put them against it - I was mainly concerned she would hurt her tiny legs if they got through.
I built a ramp out of cardboard and sticky carpet tiles and set it on the bottom to reach the first shelf, to allow her to both learn to climb and get some exercise. This worked out perfectly, especially with the cushy bed on that shelf. It also had the advantage of giving her a little sheltered area to sleep, with a pet bed under the ramp.
We call this The Catatorium and it solved a really big problem for us - how to keep her safe and isolated from our other cats until she is large enough and can get vaccinated. She is now 6 weeks old and races up and down the ramp, and plays vigorously with no problems.
Any issues (stuck hook, fastening the wheels in place, large gap at the bottom) were easily solved and I couldn't be happier with the end result.
Now I just have to find her a home! Black and white tuxedo tabby, polydactyl, looks like she will have long hair, very pretty face, extremely outgoing and playful....I don't think I'll have a problem!
