1st, as I said range is an issue, if you are inside a building of any kind you may get about 1/8th of a mile. Maybe a mile if you go outside, but certainly not 24 miles. 2nd, the volume's highest setting of 8 is not very loud unless you are in a quiet office. I drive around on loud forklifts and need to communicate with the office staff, so I bought the accessory earplug and collar ptt mic. It works well with this combo. I actually turn the volume down to 4 with the earplug because it's loud. I clip the mic to the collar of my shirt so I don't have to reach down and grab the entire radio. It's very convenient that I don't have to fumble around everytime someone calls me. 3rd, the clip on the back is not very strong, if the radio catches on something and gets hung up the clip will simply break. That happened to two of the four that I purchased. As a side note, I should mention that when the clips broke the radio dropped straight onto concrete and didn't even have a mark. I have personally dropped mine about 10 or 12 times and they still work. Good radio, would have given it 5 stars aside from the 3 things mentioned above.
when we go camping off the beaten path they have performed wonderfully, with 5 miles being the furthest distance tested, and again they functioned fine.
the battery life is amazing-left on they lasted about 30 hours, and obivously if you turn them off when your not using them they will last a lot longer. we went on a week long 4x4/camping trip and they lasted the whole time from the initial charge before we left; we probably used them on average 3-4 hours a day).
Have had them for almost a year and have no complaints-battery life hasn't diminished yet.
very happy with our purchase!
