I like this speaker/mic upgrade.... But it......
Midland has really stepped up their energy with the new GMRS Mobile units from the MXT275 to the MXT575. Offering the highest output of 50Watts (MXT575) allowed on the GMRS frequency band, The MXT575 really puts out a strong Tx and does so in a compact way!! Having the main unit able to be tucked away under a front seat or in a trunk or any other place you decide means no more cluttered footwell, warning others to "Watch out for the radio" as they knee it getting in your vehicle haha. With such a solution and space in mind. Midland decided to put all necessary information on the speaker mic itself. I liked the looks of the upgraded mic as soon as I seen it! I've shared several pictures allowing you to see the stock and upgraded mic side by side. The upgraded mic being the one with the knob on top. (The white paint is not factory) I wanted to see the looks of that myself. Some things I like about the upgraded mic is the larger screen. I really enjoy having a larger screen that allows for more information be displayed and the ability to actually read what function I am selecting in the menus unlike the stock mic which is guided with abbreviations such as, rC, Pr, 59, rb, CA, bp etc. It's not intuitive using the setup menu with the stock mic. I feel it's sloppy within respect to what this radio offers and you will definitely need the manual in hand to navigate the menus. With the Upgraded mic, instead of seeing confusing abbreviations, you are presented with the full menu name like backlight or Power etc. Much easier to setup and make adjustments. The upgraded mic also introduces a noise cancellation feature allowing you to hear and be heard with a cleaner Rx/Tx. Both mics do offer a nice clear sound through the mic and I can't complain on that. However, I still feel like the upgraded speaker mic lacks a good bit of features/usability. The screen though larger is also difficult so see clearly, Both mics might I add. The option to adjust contrast could easily fix that. But not an option. Often times the display looks washed out unless seen at a certain angle. Maybe it can be adjusted within the mics internal components, but you'll likely void any warranty in trying to see or do so. Also the ability to control brightness of the display would be a very useful feature. But not an option. You can only select 7 colors or no backlight. That alone makes me rethink my purchase towards this Midland MXT lineup as you can see It's not a cheap package when added up. I would also liked to have seen the screen space be utilized and offer a nice array of info in a clean inviting view. A display that showed the time and date, a channel by name or repeater or group by name. I feel they didn't spend much time into the main attraction, the visible part of this package called the MXT575. The speaker mic display itself. I was debating to purchase between Midland MXT575 or the Wouxun KG1000G Plus. The KG1000G Plus is a cheaper radio that offers much more. But I wanted to give Midland a chance. I would be lying to say I've not had moments of buyers regret and wishing I would've went with the Wouxun KG100G Plus.I'll sum this up already and I appreciate you for taking the time to read this long review. I hope it helps you decide your purchasing options. I don't want to steer you away from a good item but rather you know ahead of time what it possibly lacks. I feel this should have been much more intuitive and inviting. Over all it is a well built mic that feels great in the hands and sounds great. Midland hasn't failed the build quality. I'm not sure if this became a late idea and was rushed out or if the R&D lacked the drive for such aspeaker mic display or if the engineers were unable to meet those types of feats within a price range. Whatever the cause, I just wish it was more thought-out.

The knob on the top, the size and functionality make this mic worth the upgrade.

Works as described. Easy to read numbers and speaker is loud enough to hear on my SxS.

Do not buy this item, I installed it, and immediately gained the large amount of background noise, I returned it, and bought another, thinking. It was defective . Come to find out these mics have some kind of issue that creates noise when receiving and transmitting.

Ok replacement for MXT 575 original mic.
Would have been nice to add a mic hanger clip .

During a vehicular accident recently, the clip on the microphone came off. The unit itself looks great, but I need to find another clip so that I can hang the mic on a white clip.

I cannot find out how to contact this vendor through the Amazon app. I don't want to buy a whole new microphone with the microphone works. Great, I just need the mic clip portion.

While the factory mic reminded me of the 75-822 display, this one is a step in the right direction. I'm getting older and the small displays are becoming a challenge for me to see.
It does not feature a full keypad like the one on my DB20-G. But since the display is on the handset rather than the box, I guess that is the trade off. I think the one way they could upgrade the interface is make a larger touch screen that can change. Truth is, once I am with my group, I don't even use the buttons on the front once I have it set up. So either way is fine with me.
Comfort wise, I have a ton of different hand mics and I don't think there's much difference in any of them. So as an upgrade, I don't feel like it is any better or worse.
Performance wise, this mic is on par is as clear as any other decent handheld. The audio does not sound as amazing as a car stereo or even a cell phone on speaker, but It is as good as a ham or gmrs can sound.
