This is the story of Luke and Olivia. Luke, we met in book 1. Olivia is a new character. When Luke and his team try to find a missing DEA agent, they are led to a gentleman's club where Olivia works, but all is not as it seems.
This one is fast paced and exciting. The ending of the DEA agent is somewhat predictable but the rest is fast paced and exciting. Love it.
This book was really good. Olivia was a strong women workig her ass off (literally) to support herself and her mother while paying for her education and the endless medical bills acquired due to her mother's ill health. However, after escaping death one traumatic night, Olivia finds herself indebted with her psycho boss. Enters Luke, the sexy, charismatic, southern man to rescue her while he is on assignment to investigate her boss and locate a missing federal agent. The attraction between the two is instant, intense, and scorching hot. As they embark on this mission things get really hot and they both have to deal with some ghosts in order to survive togethet
She finds herself stuck in a situation where she cannot leave the business.
Luke is a hot, sexy and super macho mercenary that has been tasked to find a missing DEA agent that is involved with the owner of the strip club.
They meet and Luke finds himself falling for the very sexy, brave, yet still very-vulnerable Olivia.
There is a lot of action in this book, but it's not boring. The author does a great job keeping the reader engaged at a personal and emotional level with the characters and the situations they find themselves in.
I don't read action books by themselves- but I can read these books!
This is the second in a series, but you can read it as a standalone book.
I think it's more interesting to read them in order.
Olivia at first glance is a broken, barely hanging on girl that just wants to get out of her bad situation and have be a good, quiet citizen. Pay the bills and live her day to day life in peace and quiet. But as the book goes on, you realize that she is much more brave than she looks. She is beautiful in an ethereal sort of way; pale skin, brown hair, etc. Not a 'kick-butt' look. She gets under Luke's skin because of her looks - then as he gets to know her, he finds her sense of humor, bravery, tenacity and good heart too much to pass up.
The attraction begins early, but they don't hop into bed right away.
The are two steam scenes, but they are not erotic, nor super hot.
More characters are added to the book, and I can keep track of who they are - but are they all going to get their own book? That's a lot of books!
There is a follow through from the first book, with Trevor and Isabel. We met them in the first book, and get to see more of them in this book as well. If you do not read the first book, you don't get a sense of how tormented Trevor was after his fiance's death.
Love how Luke is a great blend of hot macho ex-military dude, yet gets all squishy over Olivia. It's fun to read the ribbing he gets from his co-workers.
The violence (hitting women) gets a bit uncomfortable - but it's fiction. The villain is bad. Hitting women is bad. So we hate him now. Go good guys!
If you were to describe this book out loud - it may sound silly.
But I found myself engrossed in the book.
The plot is fluid and keeps you interested.
The characters are interesting and mature over the course of the book. But they don't lose themselves - they don't miraculously become infinitely changed people. The heroine seemed to have change more than the hero, but it worked.
There is an epilogue in the end - but it's not about these two people.
There is a HEA for the main characters in this book.
There is no cliffhanger.
No big misunderstandings.
Can be read as a standalone -but I recommend reading it in order.
Not a hot steamy novel.
Fun to read.
I'm a faithful Elle Kennedy fan because these books are my literature crack and she gives me this fiction fix. I keep coming back to this author because her writing is superb and her characters are amazing.
