She has led a dangerous life with her adopted father being Broderick Mac Dougal. She has had to learn how to defend herself against any form of attacker, and that is not something that most men want or look for in a wife!
James Knightly has been away for seven years returning as a master swordsman, when he returns the young lady he left behind is not who she was when he left.
When Broderick is called away from his family to finally learn how he can protect his family from his clan enemy, Angus. He has to trust that his wife Davina, daughter Cailin and soon to be son-in law can keep themselves all safe while he is away.
There are so many stories in this one book and all of them are great. At no time was I ever confused about what was happening to whom.
In the end can Broderick keep his family safe? Will James still want to marry Cailin when he sees that she is highly trained herself?
And can Cailin make herself believe that a man like James would want a woman like her?
You will have to read the book to find that out! And now, for book 3!
Arial, another fantastic read. I am enjoying this series so very much. Your writing and your obvious continuity with these characters makes me want to continue with reading .........on to the next one............_)
The h is the adopted daughter of Vampire Broderick "Rick" MacDougal. And is living a dangerous life and she figures that she needs to learn how to fight in order to protect herself. But, this type of behavior is frowned upon in this age (1500's).

The details of people and places are finely described, no forced false brogue, and the storyline is captivating and full of adventure, a touch of angst, and a lot of good feelings balanced against a subtle evil. The ever-present questions about the real intentions of the monotheistic God may or may not play a very important part to this plot... And Satan's part in the creation of vampires seems to be central, yet barely marked, as the reader follows the story of Broderick and his loved ones.
