This book is mostly an action book with a bunch of sexy scenes thrown in for good measure. It's hard to say that there was much romance in this book because the characters basically stay away from each other most of the time. It's one of those love/lust at first sight deals that get hot and heavy when the characters finally give in. And, yes, it does get hot and heavy in the best ways possible.
Theres a lot of world building in this book so if you're into that immersive experience thing, you'll enjoy it. The werewolf trope is not played as simply a wrapper for what would be a normal action/erotic book, rather the author goes into detail about how different their culture is from humans. Many of the sexy scenes that occur in this book, can only occur because the characters are werewolves.
The only thing I didn't care for was this vampire subplot thing. Because the characters live in a world where all kinds of magical creatures are coming to light, this story includes sections where you see things happening from the vampire corner of the world. Don't get me wrong. I enjoy a good vampire tale as much as I do a werewolf one, but I have trouble dealing with them being in the same book together. It's like mixing chocolate and peanut butter spread (some people like that sort of thing, others know that it's the most evil thing that was ever put into jars).
When I realised I wasn't having fun reading the vampire bits; I just skimmed/skipped the sections that had them. I found myself enjoying the book a lot more after that.
3 stars. An almost perfect action/erotica book except for the parts that were peanut butter.
Human doctor Drake gets involved with the Alpha of a local pack when some of the pack teens are injured and taken to her hospital. There is a mystery fever striking down young female victims whose bodies are being dumped at hospitals. When Drake gets bitten by one of the victims she undergoes the mystery fever and is the rare survivor and becomes the key to both the Alpha's need for a mate and to thwarting a shadowy conspiracy to turn the general human populace against supernaturals like the weres and create a species war.
Very spicy romance and a solid suspense filled ongoing plot create a sexy supernatural soap opera that is addicting to read. I'm totally hooked and read all three of the books currently out and impatiently waiting for book four.
