MIDNIGHT MOON is phenomenal--it felt like J.R. Rain, C.S. Lewis and J.K. Rowling fell in love and had a book baby. There were wonderful high fantasy elements, spine-tingling dark paranormal themes and compelling introspection about good versus evil. The narrative went deep into Samantha Moon's psyche, but there was plenty of action, too. And Tammy is coming into her own as a phenomenal mind reader--this makes her a prime target for evil, with plenty of danger and supernatural and mortal risk.
Lots of twists and turns to the mystery plot and the characterization is the deepest it has been in this entire series. It is a fantastic cross-genre masterpiece of vampire thriller and high fantasy. Even though there are shades of J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter and C.S. Lewis's Narnia series, MIDNIGHT MOON is so original and so well done that it transcends both genres and stands alone. This might well be J.R. Rain's best book ever. He pulled out all the stops, pushed the envelope and blew my mind.
Five stars for this must-read novel. Samantha Moon is at her very best in MIDNIGHT MOON.
Cliffhanger: How will J.R. Rain ever top this book?
In the meantime, Sam's kids get a visit from the devil, preceded by a three-headed dog. It's not the first time Anthony's had to deal with this monster, but not as himself....as his Fire Warrior self. The devil appears as a pretty young woman, but that snake tattoo is still on the arm of this woman, and Tammy recognizes it from her Mother's memory. So she knows she's talking to the devil. He/she has figured out that he doesn't want Anthony anymore....he's going to be a folk hero, coming to the rescue of the needy. But Tammy is another story. He tells her he sees the darkness in her soul, and seeing as her gift for hearing other people's thoughts would be so valuable to him....he wants her!
So Sam calls her werewolf boyfriend, Kingsly, to stay with the kids while she and Allison help the writer work out his problems, thinking that they would be safe.
But when they came back from his place.....Sam had several texts from Kingsly.....Tammy whispered in both her brother's and in her guardian's ear, a suggestion to go to sleep, and they did, when they woke up, she was gone. Another sixteen year old who thinks she can take care of herself!
Many new, fresh ideas that makes this book an epic page turner. Samantha, Allison, Talos, and the others are taking a ride to a parallel universe so to speak.
I cannot wait until #14 is out. This book was so good, I will easily read it again and again. Trying to figure out what J.R. Rain might have up his sleeve. Bravo Mr. Rain, bravo!!
