I feel a little guilty saying that as what Sullivan went through was horrible and poor Liam is just lost but come on Derek deserved a whole book to himself. Two huge things from his past were wrapped up way to fast at the end. Honestly the only time that worked for me was the Indiana Jones gun vs sword scene – it worked there – here I felt cheated as a reader.
I love this series and I really did enjoy this book for the most part but turning the Sullivan and Liam issues into a depressing soap opera sorta turned me off.
Derek "D" Pratt is one amazing hero and Sofia is the woman to finally make this broken warrior whole again. Even though he thought he had no desire to be anything more than closed off from any kind of relationship (even friendships), Sofia brought out his humanity. She pieced together the shattered pieces of his horrible childhood and gave him the gift of herself. I have read this book over and over again. I love these two characters. "D" has intrigued me from the beginning of this series. He seems like a grade A jerk, but he has so many delicious layers that were slowly hinted at throughout the previous books, but we didn't get to see the entirety of them unveiled until now. It was an amazing heartfelt story.
Ms. Kennedy, you really outdid yourself with Derek's story. I'm always blown away by these warriors who become weak for their women. This series is by far one of my favorites...
My one complaint? I feel like he almost changed TOO much when you read the next book (but really, this isn't that book). Sofia and D have a one night stand which ends with her getting pregnant. When she goes to tell him, she finds herself in the middle of a rescue.
Exciting, yet anticlimactic at points, but still a great read.
It felt rushed Between D and Sofia.. He didn't want the Baby then he did.. Finally got the back story on him only when he thought he was going to die.. There was no building a relationship or friendship at all.. While still a ok book not the most favorite for me in the series.. And while I think the next book will be about Sully and Liam I haven't decided if I will read that one since it's not my kind of book to read at all...
