This extra large strong, thick, but beautiful bamboo cutting board is moisture resistant and will last for years. We chose Bamboo because it is one of the most renewable resources on our planet. Our bamboo is raised without pesticides and crafted into this beautiful cutting board without the use of phthalates, formaldehyde or toxic dyes and stains found on many other kitchen prep surfaces. Our eco-friendly board is attractive yet functional - allowing you to cut, chop, prep, and serve your food on the same board. Bamboo is easy on knives, but stronger than maple. This two-colored, grooved organic cutting board makes a great gift idea! CARE INSTRUCTIONS: We take great pride in the quality of our products, and with proper care your Midori Way bamboo should provide a lifetime of enjoyment and use. Our bamboo is treated with a light mineral oil application before it leaves our factory, so it arrives ready for you to use! Some tips for proper care of your bamboo board: - Coat the bamboo with a food-safe mineral oil. - Hand wash with gentle dish soap and warm water. - Avoid soaking your board, and NEVER use the dishwasher!

I've had it for 9 days, opened and on the counter for 7 days. I have conditioned it with mineral oil every one of those 7 days, and have used it to chop or cut on for at least five of the seven. It looks great. No raised pieces, shards, or splinters.
It's large enough to hold two or three different veggies; slice one, push it away, slice the next one, etc.
Maybe I push when I slice meat or veggies, but it does slide around. I thought it should have 'feet' or something on the bottom, but remembered BOTH sides are useable cutting board. I'll either need to learn not to push forward when I slice, or get a non-slip pad for under it since I do only use one side at a time. :)
So, other than my own cutting/slicing technique, this board is fabulous so far.
I have now had this board for almost two months (50 days, actually)...and as you can see by the second picture, It still looks good. I have conditioned it every day for the first week, then once a week for the next three weeks, and am currently now only conditioning it once a month, as per instructions.
This cutting board, besides being good looking, has held up beautifully. And I cook a LOT. I am constantly chopping vegetables, potatoes, meat, fruit, you name it. This cutting board acts as my second countertop next to my stove. It is *always* out and available.
It's been five months since I purchased and started using this board. I have had ZERO complaints with it. As suggested by a commenter, a non-slip pad under it solved my sliding issue from the way I cut veggies.
I added two more photos to show what it looks like at the five month mark.
Seriously, you treat this board like it's supposed to be treated, I am confident it will give you years of functionality.
The surface has a noticeable grain, which feels as if it might splinter, but it hasn't. In fact, it's quite strong and so far has stood up to chopping for four meals without a mark. I even pounded nine chicken cutlets on it (three at a time) on waxed paper.
I washed it, wiped it dry, and oiled it with coconut oil, which is antibacterial and anti-fungal. (Coconut oil is edible. It hardens in a cool room, like lard, but my kitchen is warm, so it stays as liquid as olive oil.) It sank into the board and brought out the color nicely.
If you do a lot of slicing and dicing, try it out! It also makes an attractive cheese board.
Update #1: my board slipped from my hands as I was oiling it, fell to the ground and broke. :( I'm glad I got to use it once before breaking, as it worked nicely with my knives, but sad that it's not in one piece anymore.
Original review: This is the first bamboo cutting board I have ever bought and it does not disappoint! It is both beautiful and functional. The board is solid - nice thick material. Great for maintaining the sharpness of my knives. It would be beautiful for serving a cheese course on. Bonus that it's eco-friendly!
